April 5, 20206 yr Unfortunately the buses around here are still taking cash as well as not practicing social distancing due to the mess rooms being to small. That's really bad, I feel sorry for the crews who are having to suffer those risks. Our bus-tram interchange a couple of miles away apparently also has inadequate mess facilities but our end of route cul de sac has a bus stand close to me where the drivers can take their breaks between runs inside their buses. Passengers aren't allowed to get on board there either. .
April 5, 20206 yr This news I found particularly alarming since our London bus travel is entirely contactless at the bus doors on a single fixed fare of £1.50 per hour of travel on any buses. No cash travel allowed so no need for any sort of driver and passenger contact/interaction. . Flecc, in the rare case of me going to London and using a bus (never have done so in 77 years though), just how do you pay?
April 5, 20206 yr You place your card (contactless bank card, Oyster, OAP bus pass) on the reader at the entrance. (last time I was there it was just show the OAP card as London hadn't caught up with the rest of the country on reading them).
April 5, 20206 yr Flecc, in the rare case of me going to London and using a bus (never have done so in 77 years though), just how do you pay? As sptj says. The Oyster card was a very early contactless card long before the banks caught up. Direct from TfL or from many retail outlets, the card was free but cash could be added to it by the retailer or from a bank account by TfL. Any unused is fully refunded on request. Years ago I had an Oyster card for a while on auto top up from my bank account, very convenient. .
April 5, 20206 yr I’m in total lockdown because of my age, so looking at videos of how cycle lanes should look like this one. Santa Monica Beach cycle ride
April 5, 20206 yr Last time I got on a bus was back in January, everybody on it was coughing and sneezing. I remember texting my other half saying I'd likely end up in A&E the way the day was going. Exactly one week later I was Ill, still not sure what it was but it lasted two whole weeks and I can kick a cold into touch in three days. I'd love to know if I caught the virus, it was around then but just not recognised as such. As for lockdown myself & partner decided over a month ago to seal ourselves indoors. I see lockdowns as a nuisance no more, I just won't let it get to me. If I have to stay inside for a whole year I'll do it.

E (gloves, hand sanitiser etc) has been made available to all staff. The bottom line is this, anyone dealing with the general public is at risk no matter what precautions are put in place. However our role is vital in helping other key workers and keeping the country moving until this terrible virus is controlled
April 5, 20206 yr Buses are still running here on the south coast but with a slightly reduced service. Ironically from what I can see looking out of the window they appear to be running empty. It's strange how this shopping thing is turning out to be. My daughter has just reported in from Stevenage and it seems supermarkets are almost back to normal, plenty of stock on their shelves but oddly no people buying it. Apparently the Sainsbury's store she visited was devoid of customers.

April 5, 20206 yr That's if they can find it A1, then junction 7 onto the A 602 folks. Then Sainsburys Superstore on this link Magpie Crescent, Stevenage, SG2 7DU .
April 5, 20206 yr Can't imagine my daughter walking that far from her home to shop...bet she got a lift. It's strange how we seem to be living in parallel universes at the moment. Looking out of the window from what I call my 'Office' I can watch the world go by, I'm about 60ft up so can see a fair distance. I realise I am extremely fortunate as I can see the South Downs from the back windows and from the other side of my flat ships passing through the Solent with the IOW in the distance. I can see more inside than out strangely enough, plus it's a large place so myself & partner will hunker down for as long as it takes. What's odd though is how people are behaving outside. Earlier I spotted walking along outside a group of young people, far more than the instructed figure. As they walked laughing and joking an Ambulance shot past lights flashing very possibly carrying yet another victim....they didn't even look up, incredible. Some relatives of my partner recently held a Coronavirus party ! friends piled round and it carried on through the night. It's as though there are two separate forms of human being in existence, believers and non-believers, perhaps it should be against the law to be a virus denier.
April 5, 20206 yr perhaps it should be against the law to be a virus denier. If that had been enacted early enough we could have had Johnson and Trump locked up before they managed to do so much harm.
April 5, 20206 yr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxhL2hC-cqk Social distancing bike, approx 12ft long, but no chain drive, so not legal, pity! 8-)

The authorities are being stupid, they should re-read the fable of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" and let its meaning sink in. The more they insistently repeat their irritating "Stay home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives" message and the more they bully the public, the more the public will get annoyed and ignore them. The latest nonsense is showing helicopter videos of people sunbathing in a park and criticising them, even though all but the couples were spaced out and well apart by far more than two metres. Clearly they didn't learn from the public's angry reaction to the Derbyshire police bullying. If they are not careful with this idiotic bullying they will completely lose control and have large scale rebellion on their hands. They need to remember that there are 66 million people in the UK and only 147 thousand police officers, so policing has to be done by consent. They will only get that consent by realising that every person's circumstances are different so the rules need flexibility for each to tailor them with separation to suit their own lives. .
April 5, 20206 yr I think the authorities over-react a little because even with distancing, you can fit thousands in a large park making policing much more difficult especially at weekends.
April 5, 20206 yr I think the authorities over-react a little because even with distancing, you can fit thousands in a large park making policing much more difficult especially at weekends. It's about the public's personal welfare, not the convenience of the police. In any case, police officers approaching individuals within 2 metres to enforce is moronic. The public are largely capable of looking after their own safety without the police bullying or threatening their health by a close approach. . Edited April 5, 20206 yr by flecc
April 5, 20206 yr I think the government brace themselves for CV to hit hard next week. They'd rather go to overdrive with lockdown just in case it does not peak next weekend.

The more difficult time for the authorities will come when there are a large number of survivors, presumably immune and they will have no reason to be in isolation.
April 5, 20206 yr The more difficult time for the authorities will come when there are a large number of survivors, presumably immune and they will have no reason to be in isolation. Indeed, they are already worrying about this. They need to realise that the public respond adversely to too much control, instead being perfectly capable of looking after themselves if given the minimum of information necessary. They did it successfully for 4 million years before police were invented. It's why we are still here. .

Very quiet on the street on my limited ride round, something I found useful is to ride on the road rather than cyclepaths then you won't be faced with people walking as they do across the full width of both the cyclepath and footpath (usually engrossed in their facebook pages so not paying attention) And of course there is hardly any vehicular traffic on the roads, at least round here. Today's returns are that for the city of Hull there are 31 cases, fortunately no deaths as yet and for the East Riding there are 56 cases, no deaths reported this far.
April 5, 20206 yr According to the ONS Deaths…. Jan 2020 overall deaths in UK was 51158 of which 10703died of flu, Feb 2020, 44383 died of which 8235 died of flu and in March 2020 43375 died, of which 7370 died of flu. The 5 year average death rate in March is 44459 and therefore March 2020 is below the 5 year average. All of the numbers for 2020 are below the average. mass unemployment is going to mean even more are going to die at the end of the day the cure is worse the the cause the government has totally lost the plot it is all bs to control the sheeple that have shite for brains and been brain washed. if 50,000 ppl died per day in the uk id get it and full lock down required but when it dont even come close to the 1400 on avg that die every day anyway there are other things that are going to happen and this is the pi$$ poor excuse they have come up with to blame it all on. why dont we all go out side and clap for the government cuts to the nhs for the last ten years and the dwp having to close down half of the job centers. and the dwp kill about 80k every 6 months waiting for benefits or sanctioned to death give them a clap to. and dont forget the national debt going up 1 trillion in a month give that a clap your kids grand kids will still be paying it off if the earth lasts that long. why should i give a crap im ok and not going to die the dwp tried to kill me and failed many more wont be so lucky as there to stupid to fight for there rights under law.
April 5, 20206 yr SW, until the scientists find a treatment, potentially 4.3% of us are going to die of CV within a couple of years, plus possibly another million from other causes because the NHS will be completely paralysed by CV.
