January 3, 20224 yr Hi Community I have dusted off my bike after a 6 month break and I left the battery on the bike this morning I detached the battery and went to charge it and the charger it self is showing a green light (which usually means charging complete) and I can hear a clicking sound coming from the power bank of the charger. Anyone had this issue? Was thinking of sourcing another charger but not sure if it’s the battery or the charger.

If it sat on the bike for 6 months untouched, that might put it to sleep or leave it deeply discharged.
January 3, 20224 yr some power supply's can make a clicking noise or a hi pitch whine as had a brand new corsair psu that sounded like a load of crickets was inside of it and got worse under load but it did work fine just annoying so sent it back.
January 3, 20224 yr Author Is the battery fully charged? Is the first thing I would check. If it sat on the bike for 6 months untouched, that might put it to sleep or leave it deeply discharged. I’ll have to check I can’t imagine it’s charged at all I suspect it’s completely discharged and empty but I’ll double check this
January 3, 20224 yr Author If the charger outputs 42v it is working. I’ll get the multi meter out and check this which points would I check as it’s one of those wide attachments with about 10 pins.

January 3, 20224 yr I’m tempted to leave it on overnight and check the outcome in the morning I never leave my ebike battery charging overnight, in case it bursts into flames while I'm asleep. But it's always tempting, because my battery takes 10 hours to charge fully. Edited January 3, 20224 yr by guerney

January 3, 20224 yr Author It has six pins, outer ones are clearly marked +/- on both parts. Good spot mate I didn’t notice I’ll dig out the multi meter and check this out (secretly praying it’s the charger at fault and not the battery)
January 3, 20224 yr Author I’ve made two additional observations 1. The clicking sound only occurs when I connect the charger to the battery. 2. When I press the power button on the battery it shows 3 solid blue bars and a 4th blinking bar (not sure what that means)

January 4, 20224 yr It is the current flow that causes the warmth rather then voltage. even my 4a bosch charger gets pretty hot when charging.

January 4, 20224 yr Author Thanks for the help. I also used this The multi meter is returning 0 when i test the charger unit. Would that imply the charger unit is broken and I would need to source another charger rather than the battery?
January 4, 20224 yr It may use extra comm's wiring as it has 4 extra pins so you might not get a reading. One assumed the meter was set to 200v DC. One could open the charger to check for a blown fuse if fitted/used, if the clicking noise to the charger is with no battery connected then it indicates power supply from the wall socket is good and the plug fuse is good. January 4, 20224 yr Author Yes the multimeter was set to 200v DC, also the clicking noise only occurs when the battery is connected. The plug fuse is good i tested with a different power cable too. I could open up the charger box and see if there is a fuse.
January 4, 20224 yr ok so is anyone able to assist on how I go about testing the charger unit with a multi meter? Like what settings do i need to use on the multi meter? Set the meter to a DC voltage that is more than 42V. On my cheap meter that is the 200V scale. Then touch the probes to the leftmost and rightmost pins on the charger output, taking care not to be touching any other pins at the same time. When the charger is on, the meter should read. Hopefully 42V. -42V just means the probes are wrong way round, which doesn't matter for this task.
