September 9, 20223 yr My wheels need truing. Has anyone tried this West Biking truing stand, or had good results using something in a similar price range? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003827472417.html I can't afford a P&K Lie https://www.pklie.de/truing_stand.html https://www.bikeradar.com/news/the-most-lustworthy-wheel-truing-stand-in-the-world/ Edited September 9, 20223 yr by I893469365902345609348566

September 9, 20223 yr Electric Bike axles don't fit in regular wheel truing stands. Try this one at about £1.50: Edited September 9, 20223 yr by saneagle
September 10, 20223 yr I made my own out of timber in the form of the metal type in pic one. A easier option is to use the bikes drops outs with the bike in situ by using a simple cable tie as the rim truer. Edited September 10, 20223 yr by Nealh
September 10, 20223 yr I bought the PDF on Wheel Building by Roger Musson (currently £9.00 here) in which he has drawings on making a wheel truing stand from simply found materials. I made one from his design about 6 years ago and have successfully built/trued many bike wheels. It's not a luxury truing stand by any means but given that I only use it a few times a year it is more than adequate.
September 10, 20223 yr I used a cable tie, a desk lamp and a plastic stool to sit at the right height for the bike fork. The three wheels turned out fine and I'm not sure how a 'proper' stand would improve on that.

I've used a cable tie, but it was hard to see the small gap between it and the rim. Maybe I should place some white paper behind it.

His stand looks very good, but beyond my present woodworking skills. I don't mind spending about £100 for unlimited truings at home, instead of about £20 per bike shop truing.

And it's posted free from the UK! Looks just the job, and that online shop accepts Paypal. And there is also an inexpensive Lifeline dishing guage https://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-wheel-dishing-gauge-1?lang=en&curr=GBP&dest=1&sku=105345754 Lifeline also do this cheaper but flimsier looking version for up to 135mm axles, but I have my doubts as to how long this will last without warping. Would take up less space, but yours looks sturdier. https://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-home-mechanic-wheel-truing-stand?lang=en&curr=GBP&dest

One of the reviewers on Chainreaction complained that his flimsy lightweight "Home Mechanic" version warped in the sun.
