new owner of electric bike

Featured Replies

well I have put together my own 48v ebike have now ridden about 75 miles on it. I must say it is a much better way to get to work. I got the bike from halfords and the motor from ebay and so far fantastic.

Well done Glenn, keep us informed on progress and any other details would be of interest, items used, total cost, range and performance, plus photos if at all possible.

pic of bike

here is a pic of my bike

all in it has cost me just under £800.00 including new bike, motor and 48v li-ion battery, spare break pads side sadle bags, speedometer, bike lock, and a few other bits. so not a bad deal. I am now up to 160 miles with no problems I am doing more peddling now but I dont need too as it always has plenty of reserve.

Nice conversion Glenn. These are so great to get you riding to work :D

Mine was a 250W 36v kit and its pretty powerfull. Your 1000w 48v kit must really shift

That looks extremely neat Glenn, and with you finding it's got plenty of power, very good value at £800. You must feel good riding it, knowing you created it.

Great looking conversion Glenn. Thanks for posting the photo.

p.s. it's the first time I've seen a hair dryer used as a motor:D

hair dryer

yes used the hair dryer to soften the handle grip to get on and off lol.

just brought it back in to make sure everything still tight and waterproof had my first ride with some rain today so far so good.

It is nice to ride to get to my work it costs over £600 a year in park in ride and parking fees and with the fuel to get to park n ride will pay for itself in first year let alone that im retiring one car as it wont be used much.

If its in the right mode will do about 32mph on flat ground

used to take me 35-45 min to use the bus or drive to work now only 18 min from leaving to pulling into the loading dock at my work. shame no one sells or promotes them in the south west. I went to every bike shop I think in devon and couldnt even get a test drive so built my own. a few shops said they used to sell ready made but that they took most back cause they wouldnt do what it said on the tin.

Landrover

its their landrover model I chose it for the front suspension and it looked pretty solid. so far it has been perfect for the transplant. even the 7 gear sprocket fit perfect on the new rim that came in the kit. I might upgrade to disc brakes in the future. the ones that came with it stop it ok but i just changed the pads and not sure if the discs would last longer.

its from china

the kit is the 48v li ion which came complete with rim hub tire controller throttle, and battery.

there was a little damage on the cable where it came out of the rim but the supplier was right on it and sent me a new one and even included the ped electric part for free.

Fair enough. I'm looking or a kit such as yours and as there are any number as you describe available "from China", and we know that many are just no good, I was looking for a specific contact. Thanks anyway.:(

the motor kit

sorry didnt realize you wanted the contact the sellers name is luckybbd he has 100% good feed back

I do think that in time though I may rewire it I notice if i drive it home hard especially since there are a lot of hills on the last bit the battery cable is a little warm. nothing drastic but think in time i may put a little larger wire on it. out side of that though I love it. hope this helps

1100 miles

well ive just completed 1100 miles and so far the bike is doing well I have lost over a stone now so its even faster up the hills but i seem to peddle more and use the motor less but like today it was nice with the rain and the wind to get home a little faster watching for the deep puddles.

well ive just completed 1100 miles

In about a month? Blimey, that's impressive; it's taken me a year to do that!

Yes, "32mph on flat ground" and 1100 miles in a month. The tool kits going to get well used

Impressive looking conversion :)
