hi everyone, I'm new to forums, don't use the internet much and have used e-bikes a whole lot less than that.

however I'm here because I'm losing hope of getting help from my searches and so here i am, hoping one of you can help.

so, I've never had an e-bike and i i don't normally use bikes but my friend rides 20 miles along the canal every day and id like to go with him if i can. i have cancer quite severely and absolutely cannot pedal at all. so I've searched and searched and the bikes i have found will only do 4 mph or 6kph using throttle only, which is odd because i see the limit is 15.5 mph assisted pedaling. id be happy with the 15.5 limit as i will be able to keep up with my mate but am struggling to find anything that will help me to do this.

i would literally only be able to ride using throttle only

I'm stuck at home at the moment and it would be great to be able to get out an enjoy the fresh air so if anyone can point me in the right direction it would be massively appreciated

you will have to fit it to a donor bike and can use full power with a throttle a 20ah batt with that motor at 3oa will get you around 18 miles going 40mph.

 

if you dont want that sort of speed and more range get the cheaper version as you can set how the power is used with the program cable.

 

if you set it to max amps you will loose the warranty!

Wisper sell bikes with independent throttles that are legal.

 

Many Chinese bikes have throttles that can be set to work independently by pressing a few buttons to change a setting in the LCD. It's not clear whether that's actually illegal. I very much doubt that you'd get prosecuted for it, even if it is. You can find a whole lot of bikes like this on Amazon and Ebay that should suit your needs:

i have looked at Giants and Haibikes and also Specialised as i like the look of them but once again they say they have throttle but it is limited to 4mph. i see Wisper bikes do a few different bikes that you can buy with full throttle but they seem to be the only ones and they are not really my cup of tea.

UK illegal no throttles

An £80-£100 premium is the cost for an aftermarket configurable KT controller and display, which when applied to a generic hub drive ebike will allow configuration within the limits of your motor/battery.

 

for more power/speed just replace the probably 15a controller with a 17a or possibly even higher capacity controller, considering battery limitations.

 

The more customised and specialised an ebike with in-frame batteries, especially those sold by halfords etc the harder to mod/fix/take ownership of your bike.

Wisper bikes in 7oaks is your legal throttle option, bikes are sold and registered as LPM ebikes that conform to EAPC reg's and can be used the same as EAPC's and have a throttle that will operate to 15.5mph.

How is anyone supposed to guess at how powerful the Wisper 806 is going to be, when the website doesn't state controller amperage limit, maximum continuous discharge current of the battery, what cells the battery contains, if those cells and/or BMS can easily be upgraded, or whether or not power can be increased beyond stock electronically if necessary, for people with health problems like the OP? Not everyone wants to throttle along, everyone hates being disappointed at not being able to ascend a hill.

I want something more along the lines of the haibike hardseven 6 or the trekking 6. Is there anyway these could be made to do 15.5 using throttle only.? I just like the look of them in particular

Fewer modifications will now be needed for these machines to pass the test and gain type approval. The MSVA test costs £55 per individual vehicle.

 

Each individual bike must pass the Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval (MSVA) test. This provides UK-specific type approval (i.e. it is not valid in other EU countries) and the DfT regard these as legal bureaucracy free pedelecs.

 

The new class for Twist & Go EAPCs is called "250W LPM", a sub-category of the standard "Low Powered Moped", which is the L1e-A category which T&G EAPCs fell into before. The new edition of the test manual reduces the requirements somewhat for this new sub-category. For example, a kickstand is still required, but it does not have to auto-retract. Moped-like mirrors are now not required, etc., etc. Basically almost any legal pedelec meets the requirements, but check the PDF manual linked to below:

No. So start looking at other options. There are loads of bikes on Ebay and Amazon that do exactly what you want. Choose the one you like.

Unfortunately I think both those bikes use Yamaha motor which is quite proprietary technology (as do Shimano and Bosch motors) so they tend to be quite "locked up" in terms of throttle function and adjusting max assist speed (although there are dongles that can derestrict the max assist speed, but not always reliably) I don't know of anything similar in terms of unlocking the throttle.

I think Wisper is the only manufacturer that has a fully legal twist and go throttle, I think Woosh can do something similar but it does need you to rotate the pedals initially. As [mention=3847]saneagle[/mention] says lots of the bikes on ebay , amazon and AliExpress use much more generic technology and it is quite easy to unlock the twist and go throttle function (although I've seen it argued to be legal in the UK you would need to follow the Single Approval route)

you can get parts for the Yamaha motors and controllers but not the giant ones as they use can bus with there yamaha motors and use there own batts and displays.

 

if i had to buy one it would be one of those but a throttle would need a new controller display and batt but there are motor mounting kits out there to fit a bafang mid drive so it can be done.
