sw900 display with two cables

Featured Replies

hi,

i have ebike with a sw900 display, but it has two cables coming from it, green and red (instead of the one)... these two cables go into a small plastic junction, that goes into the battery.. i can`t seem to find a display anywhere,,, mine has somehow got damp inside and wont turn on.

secondly, there is not control unit that i can see, as all the wires go into the battery, so it might be built in..

i am no expert and am only learning, and any help would be appreciated.

Can't see from your photo's, but it's likely that the control unit is built into the battery base. Need more details (photo's etc) to give precise help. Generally speaking it is not possible to replace just a display as they are paired with the specific controller. Don't despair the costs are not horrendous and it's likely you will end up with a much better control system.

Need a picture of the whole bike, detail of display, battery and motor with any numbers on them.

Also give details of what the bike is or isn't doing as fault finding may get round whatever it is.

Does your bike have lights, and are they operated by the LCD?

That's normally what the red 2-pin connector is for. As long as you have the standard 5-pin connector on the replacement, it should work, but you'd have to use battery lights or wire them to the battery through a separate switch and fuse; however, there can be software differences in the LCD, which means that they don't work with all controllers.

Your controller is integrated into the battery receiver and wired directly to the connector. You can get a better controller and LCD as a pair for about £100, but you'd have do some soldering to the wires.

Hold your horses, don't go spending money yet. Displays and controllers are normally bought as a pair, this guarantee's that they work together.

As it does not turn on at all there may be some testing to be done, do you have a digital volt meter?

D8veh is the real expert here, I'd listen to him.

as a test a bought a normal display( free returns), and plugged into the green plug and the display turned on.. but if you tried to do anything it went straight off... so it must be the display, but i can`t find one with dual cables..

If you can take off your battery and access your Controler you might be able to see which brand or model number it is .

If not might be worth getting the KT one that might fit that battery then you have a good choice of LCD screens If you need a pas too they are very cheap from topbikekit

You might want to think about changing your motor as that one looks like it’s bigger than 250W the police are cracking down all over the country on bikes that look like yours .

And buying a display free returns you may have just blown that screen so you may be sending an item you broke back !!

Nice one you have to match the controller to the correct lcd plug colour or fit is irrelevant.

You can probably run without a display. Like that, it'll work with a throttle and give a fixed level 1 pedal assist, assuming that it has a pedal sensor that worked before. To do that, you need to cut the connector off the old display, leaving about 2 or 3 inches of wire on the connector, strip back the insulation and join the red and blue wires. You can put a switch between those two wires to switch the controller on and off, which is what the LCD does. The red wire comes from the battery and the blue one powers the controller.

Make sure that the battery is switched off and disconnected when you do that, and short out the pins on the battery receiver after removing the battery to discharge the capacitors in the controller. You might get a small spark when you do that, which means success. The reason you have to do that is because you'll short the red wire with battery voltage to the data wires when you cut the wire, which would damage the controller. With no charge in the capacitors and the battery off, it doesn't matter if you short them. Alternatively, if the LCD has a connector up near the handlebars, you can disconnect it and cut the wire between the connector and LCD.
