If you need help with a battery or charger, it would be better to give us a detailed explanation of what you have and what problems you're trying to solve. I doubt that anybody here knows what or where Powatechnic is.

I have a Powacycle Puma ebike. The charger developed a crack in the corner and I can hear rattling inside as if bits have dislodged. It charged the battery as normal, but I'm reluctant to use it now it has a crack.

All advise appreciated. Also, do you know where I can purchase a new charger?

24v ebike, battery 17.5ah.

Picks attached

Thanks

Your charger is a plastic box containing solid state circuitry so as long as it both works and no conductive/metalic elements are touchable through the case crack i would breath easy and chill. A wide roll of electrical pvc tape can bandage the box securely.

While caution with all things electrical is certainly a healthy starting point especially battery related ;) In my opinion as a qualification free armchair expert ;) Not so much warranted in this case. You may wish to check that a 3-5a fuse is fitted in the plug and not a 13a job, just so if the charger develops a fault and attempts to short circuit the fuse will blow earlier..

If the rattling about was anything other than case fragments the chances of the charger working are highly improbable. Granted a daily shake to confirm the rattle still exists could lead to future damage in some circumstances so would be best avoided, but beyond ensuring all cables are secured and gripped well and the electronics are not exposed to probing fingers, and avoiding unnecessary shaking, I would suggest your good to go.. And dont drop it again if possible ;)

Thanks for your advice, thelarkbox. I will do as advised. I don't recall dropping it though, and wonder if it cracked due to heat as it does get hot. My dryer cracked at the side due to heat too. Thanks again :)

Nothing to worry about. As he said, it's just a bit of plastic broken off inside that won't do any harm. If there's a hole in the case, you can fill it with hot melt glue or epoxy, or just tape over it.

That's quite a good charger, so worth keeping. The voltage is a bit strange. It's a bit high for a lead battery (28.8v max), high for normal Li-ion (normally 29.4v) and high for LiFePO4 (29.2v). You can buy chargers with the correct connector from Ebay, Amazon and Aliexpress for about £9 if you really want to replace it, but you should always check the voltages on the connector pins to make sure that they're wired the same, just in case they're not. they're normally OK, but not guaranteed OK. You have to hunt a bit to find the right connector, as that one is not used so much now.

Yes, it's a very good charger. Thanks for the reassurance. I've ordered electrical tape.

What do you think of this company ?https://powatechnic.com/product/pwt2200/93573/powacycle-puma-24v-paj-4-pin-battery-charger

They seem to supply a lot of chargers for all brands. Here's pics of my pins, would I still need to measure if I ever need a new one.
