E-Trike....What Voltage ?

Featured Replies

Just got this Scout E-Trike, and want to add a flashing amber beacon to it.......might be a stupid question, but what voltage will it be ?.....or would it be better to use an auxillary battery ?.....Any thoughts welcomed......

Quite simple what voltage is the charger or battery rated at ?

24v, 36v or 48v, in most cases one of the first two.

Thanks, I will have to check......it's just that are two wires coming from the battery pack....for "auxillary attachments" and was hoping to use them to power the flashing beacon.......

If you're thinking of a bright warning one, like you see on the breakdown trucks for daytime use, they're 12v or 24v, and they need quite a lot of power, like about 18w. If all you want is an orange flashing warning light for riding at night on the pavement, you can get independent re-chargeable ones, which won't be much good in daylight.

I wouldn't use any auxiliary connector on your controller. If you over-load it, you can get problems.

Thanks for that.....it's really one that's visible in daylight.....one of my planned trips out takes in a fairly busy stretch of road, not on it for long, but it's notorious as a racetrack......

Now that I've swapped the wire basket, for this rigid plastic box, I think that one of those 12v rechargeable powerpacks is the way forwards, as it will sit in the box, to power the flashing beacon......work in progress !!.....

A bright beacon won't stop them passing close at high speed - tried that and still do - but one of @matthewslack 's excellent Guernicar Deflectors would. Like other rabid wild animals, drivers instinctively avoid anything which sticks out prominently - this has also been my experience with an Oxford lollipop sticking out from the right hand side of my handlebar. You're safer looking wide. Drivers avoided my bike trailer with just the handlebar lollipop deployed. They all give me a wide berth now, it's made cycling a relaxing experience again.

Well, I've established that the battery is indeed 36 volts......so I think the way forwards is to get one of these 12v flashing beacons, and run it off a rechargeable battery, or powerpack, which will sit in the rear box.....work in progress !!.......
