i'm seeing loads of electric bikes now!

Featured Replies

I took my Alien around the South Leicestershire villages at the weekend. The bike attracted a huge amount of interest & questions from people who seemed genuinely interested in finding out more about electric biking.

I haven't seen many around North Essex where I live, but I sense a real upsurge in interest.

i had my first ride into work today and i didn't see any. I did however have someone ask me whether the thing attached to my bike was used to generate electricity........ummmmm yes......thats exactly what it is.

Just before it dumps it all out in one go and i have to make sure the bike doesn't wheelie.

i haven't seen any around here recently but i kid in clitheroe shouted corrrrrr thats an electric bike !! I have also heard other people mention it when i have passed them so i think a lot more people are aware of them now

Saw another one yesterday. Not sure what as I could not catch him. He was not pedalling and I could see a shiny silver battery on his rear rack. Possibly an Alien conversion?

There does seem to have been a huge increase in London bike commuters within the last 12 months - in some ways a bit annoying.

There has certainly been a huge increase in the last month, all the fair weather riders are out ;) . If the numbers go up much more I can imagine critical mass problems in some areas as most cycle paths and lanes are designed for low volumes.

same here in Ipswich, although not much in the way of congestion problems..

It used to be pink elephants in the old days, how times change. :D

.

They sure do. But It's only a couple of pints more between seeing pink elephants and Aliens ;)

Thats one of the plans Boris has isn't it, Increasing the width of cycle lanes to enable more people to commute.

I don't think its a bad thing since bus lanes are pretty wide in town and i see plenty of regular lycra cyclists just using the road rather than the cycle lanes.

With any luck, this will show TFL or whoever is in charge that there are plenty of people using bikes in town and the roads need to be made safer.

That is a big drawback with some of the cycle superhighways I have used, they look wide but being two way and seperate from the road there is no way to overtake when it's busy. That may sound trivial but some people like to potter along at half the speed I ride, if I'm getting frustrated about being stuck in traffic with longer journey times then there's not much point in being on a bike.

velosolex?

On London Bridge today a very shiny (almost plastic looking) bike with a big engine cover over the front wheel pottering along at about 15 mph- no pedalling. A real Velosolex moped lookalike- but the grey haired rider had no helmet so illegal moped:eek: or ebike?

There is an electric VeloSolex now, so it might have been an imported one. On that the front wheel "engine" cover is fake, that's the controller. It has a rear hub motor.

Scroll half way down this webpage to see the Electric Version.

Genius- Surely, one day, you'll fail to come up with the answer:D .

Pulled into the bicycle shed at my local supermarket this morning and parked my torq next to an ezee sprint. First e-bike I have seen in the Chorley area. The owner was waiting for me when I finished my shopping, had a bit of a chat with him. Mine was the first ebike he'd seen too.

Had a great moment this morning too. Flying along the bypass in town rapidly closing on two serious cyclers (saxobank lycras etc) when an ambulance dropped in behind me. Rather than lose momentum i decided to take the cyclists and overtook them at about 25mph. They caught me up at the ice cream parlour at the end of the road, where i was indulging in some vanilla flavoured refreshment. They were genuinely shocked at the speed i could achieve on the machine and showed a lot of interest. They both had a go on it, and agreed it was a fantastic commuting solution.

Being new to e-biking, I guess this would be a pretty commonplace experience for us. I'va had some pretty black looks from the lycra clads over the last week or two but these guys put a smile on my face all morning.

Just been given a Torq carpetbagger.

I put the guy i met onto these forums. To be honest I was surprised he wasn't a member already. His only real gripe was the lack of support, so when I informed him of the wealth of knowledge and experience on here he seemed keen.

And then two come along at once?

While waiting for the bus this morning (Knees giving me jip again!) in Cambridge, first off a silver step-thru ridden by a rather striking looking female at pace so I couldn't see the make :o

Then just like buses, a Sakura Mustang chopper hard on the heels of the step-thru! Oh well, thats life!

on sunday i spotted a kalkhoff parked up outside the Sirloin pub in hoghton about 2.5 miles from me,unfortunately i was in the car at the time and couldn't tell whether it was a Pro connect or an Agattu
There now five ebikers that i know of in Yeovil. I regular meet (catch up) a guy riding a second powerbyke on my way home form work. Another on a yellow Izip, and i have seen 2 more powerbykes from a distance. There is also JohnP who has several ebikes, but he's lives in the countryside the away from metropolis.Hi John.
I've seen three others around near me recently, and my LBS (a Raleigh dealer) is reporting an upsurge in demand for e-bikes as well!! (East Manchester)
Seems like e bikes are really taking off here in Switzerland. Think I saw about 6 this weekend. Mostly flyers but also spied a bionx. Then got overtaken by one , a Stromer, on the way home today. Also i see 2 ebikes parked at work regularly. Only 8-11 weeks till my new bike comes and I can join them.

I still haven't noticed many in London despite the recent large increase in bikes on the road.
