I thought it was direct drive hubs that were considered "bulletproof", with geared hubs not lasting as long due to the nylon gears ?

Geared hubs are just as reliable as direct drive.

7 × 3 gears means that you can use the cheaper free-wheel geared hub-motors rather than the cassette ones, so that gives you more choices. All the geared motors from Yose Power will therefore be OK.

I've just bought a 350w kit from elite battery shop, same as yose power, in fact came with a yose power bag. I'm going to be building my bike next week, but the kit looks very good so far. I believe they do a kit including battery, and someone on the forum has said the battery was decent quality. Quick delivery from Germany too.
