That's a BS01 pad generic to quite a few Shimano, Tektro and I believe Clarkes brakes. 3mm dia is the std size split pin used.

Yet again, a tyre has blown out.
Another Schwalbe Ice Spiker. Riding along as normal..."bang" and the sidewall has ripped away from the bead.
I was 17 miles from home at the time, but found a small bike shop not far from where I was.

He put on a Schwalbe Smart Sam Plus, and had a close look at the wheel as to whaat could be causing it, as it os now the 3rd blow out on the back wheel.

He couldnt come up with any solution, apart from to try and find some tyres with reinforced tyre walls.

Im going to put my marathon plus MTB's back on for now, I cant keep wasting money on tyres!

Some tyres just aren't strong enough for the extra forces on an electric bike. The old Continental Top Contact were a good example. The sidewalls just completely broke up in less than 1000 miles so that the tube would pop out in several places. I think that I heard that there's a new stronger version now.

My Schwalbe winter studded tyres are still going strong with no issues now on their third winter, they go in Nov and come off Feb or March.

As much as I like the studded tyres for winter, I have had both types available from Schwalbe, one normal and one foldable...and theyve both blown. I give up on them now.
Really dont know what is causing it....weight maybe, I dont know. I carry spare innertubes and tools with me, I dont want to have to start carrying a spare tyre, but ive had more blow outs in the last few months than punctures in 2 years.

Ill look around for some with reinforced tyre walls if there is such a thing in the size i need. Until then, Ill put the marathons back on, and hope we dont get sub zero temps

No problems with my studded Marathon Winters which, like Neal's, are in their third season.

I don't do the mileage Andy does, but I'm still surprised he's had blowouts.

The Winters, as well as studs, will have a different compound compared to standard Marathons, so maybe they aren't quite as tough.

My problem is I’m limited to two types of ice spikers due to the wheel size. I can’t get marathon winters in my size

My Ice Spikers had plenty of use last winter, but almost none so far this one. However, they seat fine on my eMate Rims and I've had no issues. I run them at 40-50psi.

How easy were they to fit, Andy? Mine were a bugger to get on.

They were an absolute ****** to get on. I made sure I put the last one on with no levers, and just hands after the previous one popped.
I was running them at 45

Hi Andy. My local bike store in Sidcup had my Oxygen in for a service and to replace a chain etc. When i went to pick it up we chatted for a bit. The bloke said do you mind me asking wahtnthis cost? I told him about 1400. He said i thought it would be a lot more. We have had a few in over the years and they are generally very poor quality bikes. This is a decent bike with good components.

Nice to hear, i thought.

Make sure your disks are rated for metallitic, most entry level ones stamp resin only on them.

Schwable offer most of there tyres with range of carcasses, see their website to find right one.

I had two side wall failures on the rear with schwable smart sam plus tyres just like you and swapped to Specialised Crossroads Armadillo 650B 27.6” Wired Clincher tyres in 1.9” that are now up to 2690 miles with no punctures.

The side walls seem much tougher than the schwalbe tyres and they work better than I expected off road and run and grip well on the road although my priority as a regular commuter is reliability, durability and not getting punctures.

I had no complaints about the performance of the schwable smart sam plus tyres and have to admit that they were a better off road tyre than the specialized but I could not put up with the nagging doubt that I could get a side wall failure puncture and as I hit near to 40mph admittedly very briefly on my steepest downhill bit of road on the way home could not keep riding on a tyre that might blow out on me.

Thanks George, I'll look them up.
