 | Touring the World in an eco-friendly way, Guim Vals Teruel is aiming to promote and encourage energy conservation and waste reduction. Starting his ride in May 2009 from China, Guim will be riding a Wisper 905se electric bike around the globe aiming to complete his trip at the Olympics in London in 2012. More details here and here.

» Toshiba plans new factory to make new Super Charge Ion battery (SCiB)

 | Toshiba is planning to invest $224million developing a new plant in Japan to manufacture the latest electric bike batteries. The new Super Charge Ion battery is said to recharge in 30 minutes as opposed to a typical charge time of 4 hours. Schwinn is already using the new battery in its Tailwind electric bike. » Fire at main European battery supplier could impact sales of electric bikes

 | A fire at the factory of the main European battery supplier last week could affect the supply of electric bikes from a number of manufacturers. Those affected include BionX, Heinzmann and Gazelle. The fire occured in two production buildings at GMZ in Germany. More here

 | PowaByke will be launching their new X-Bike on the 19th August. There are three models in the line-up, the X6-LS, X6 and X24. All models are fitted with a 250W brushed motor and a 10-18 miles range 36v 6ah lithium battery which can be doubled up to provide extra range. More details at launch.
