    Need details about this controller.

I think he's talking about limiting current in the settings rather than via the shunt.

    Need details about this controller.

But surely if the current is limited in the controller to a sensible amount, it wouldn't put any extra strain on the battery?

I've searched everywhere and the closest in style at least is the MAC motors with the individual lugs for the spokes - whereas this has two spokes per lug. It's a heavy beastie and I would have expected to see a performance version (1kw or more) around the web but no luck so far. I would open it...

Just ordered a Fore Rider (Bluetooth phone display adapter)

I've been curious about bluetooth display subsititutes for a while now and after looking at the KT-BLE01 and Eggrider etc I decided to bite the bullet and order a Fore Rider. The main advantage of the Fore Rider for me is that it can be connected at the same time as the LCD display, giving me...

I'm not sure, but I think the only difference between the 500w and the 1000w is the controller's maximum current. The KT controllers use current control on the pedal assist, so if you want to get more range, use level 4 instead of level 5, then the power is similar to the 500w. Makes sense as...

    Cyclotricity Stealth

No, not using it ofroad at the moment. I did when I first got it but the controller literally banged around in it's box which didn't inspire confidence. That was soon sorted with a bit of padding though. I mainly used the bike for commuting so made mods to increase speed (better rolling tyres...

    Cyclotricity Stealth

And if anyone is as annoyed as I am by the hole in the side of the frame where the cable enters - I have a few rubber grommets that fit perfectly. Happy to send them on for free to anyone who'd like to try one. These are the ones I bought...

I've swapped from the original KT-LCD1 to KT-LCD5 and very pleased so far. The LCD5 is smaller, allows cruise control, shows realtime voltage (in numbers) and you can adjust the brightness level. A minor thing really, but I always felt like the LCD1 was too bright at night. Early days but I'm...

Swapping KT-LCD1 to LCD5 (with different plugs)

I've got it up on the stand and have played around with the settings. I now have cruise control! Looking forward to going out for a spin in a bit.

Swapping KT-LCD1 to LCD5 (with different plugs)

Looks like you'll need to go with d8veh's way then and solder your new wires to the existing. If you use a 5 pin plug you'll be alright, but potentially won't use all of the wires depending what you find when you get in there. You could always peel back the outer insulation and count the wires...

Swapping KT-LCD1 to LCD5 (with different plugs)

Sometime in the future I may do something similar so I can remove the display when the bike is locked up.

Swapping KT-LCD1 to LCD5 (with different plugs)

How about gently opening the display and taking a peek. It looks like it's just screws with the LCD3. Pry open gently remembering that where both cables enter the display will be sealed with silicon. Should be easy to see how many wires are coming in, then you can put it back together and...

Swapping KT-LCD1 to LCD5 (with different plugs)

Aaah! Sorry Kiwi I misunderstood. None of the LCDs I've used have external buttons so I can't be sure. I would imagine it wouldn't be more than 4 wires and maybe only 3. In your shoes I'd buy plugs with 4 connectors giving you a spare if needed. I've just had a look inside the LCD1 (with...

Swapping KT-LCD1 to LCD5 (with different plugs)

Thanks for that link. Having Higo connectors will come in very handy! The wiring for the display is: 36 volts - Red Control - Blue Ground - Black Data 1 - Green Data 2 - Yellow Taken from the KT-LCD5 manual: http://www.szktdz.com/upload/file/20170918/20170918143044_14100.pdf

5 wires. Same colours in each display. Where are you getting the Higo plugs from?

Swapping KT-LCD1 to LCD5 (with different plugs)

Thanks @d8veh. Your guidance and reassurance gives me the courage to attempt these things and move closer to my dream bike.. In the end I compromised and soldered the wires inside the LCD5. I could have soldered directly to the board but it was late, I didn't want to risk lifting any tracks and...

Swapping KT-LCD1 to LCD5 (with different plugs)

Me again! I need some advice and possibly reassurance before I dive in. I'm currently running a Cyclotricity kit with Julet connectors on everything and I've just received an LCD5 from BMS with the more usual white connector. My plan is swap the current LCD1, to have a smaller and more capable...

It's not great without assistance as the direct drive motor is so heavy. It feels like carrying a couple of sacks of spuds... or three. Check out my posts about reducing weight. I bought cheap carbon seat post and handlebar. The suspension forks are heavy so changing to any rigid forks will...
