    Tern Link D8 Conversion

That's interesting, thanks. Any way to tell from the full number stamped on it? One bit is a bit smudged but I'd be able to make it out with a brighter light.

    Tern Link D8 Conversion

Just the wrong plug - it wouldn't fit into the battery. I sent them a pic and within ten minutes they replied that they'd send me the correct one. Don't know yet if they want this one back or not. I'll sort that later. No significant markings on the motor. Ciclotek is etched on the side but...

    Tern Link D8 Conversion

Just to update on my conversion of a Tern Link P9. I'm banjaxed at the moment because my supplier sent me the wrong charger so I can't wire everything up. The attached pic shows the motor and battery mounted on the front of the bike. The bracket has been successful and the frog is mounted very...

    Shorter motor extension lead

Very frustrating - I went to charge the battery today before bench testing and they've sent me the wrong charger. The supplier came back by return and they're sending me the correct part but I'm banjaxed 'til it arrives. There isn't even enough in the battery to safely do a test so I'll just...

    Shorter motor extension lead

I'm ready to start wiring up now and I see that an extension of around 10cm is sufficient. I'd be mad to do other than break out the soldering iron. I'll bench test everything tomorrow and if everything works I'll extend the lead coming out of the controller. Can I assume that the colour coding...

    Shorter motor extension lead

Yeah, I reckon I could do that. I'd prefer not to solder until I know that the controller is good over at least a few months. If this is the best way to do it I'll see if I have room to for now tie the excess cable off into the body of the control compartment built into the frog and solder the...

    Shorter motor extension lead

Hi I'm wondering is it possible to buy a shorter extension lead for my hub motor? The one I got with the kit is about 1m in length. Given my small wheel and where I'm mounting the controller something around 30cm would be ideal. I've attached a picture of the lead - it's a round yoke with 9...

Powered axle too tight a fit

Having tried it, I must agree. Five or ten minutes at most and not hard work. I just have the final slivers to take off and to finish grinding down the two little pimples below the lawyer's lips. I think i can get C washers on the way back from Dublin tomorrow and after a lick of paint, I'll be...

Powered axle too tight a fit

They look like they'll go inside pretty neatly and there's not a lot of clearance between the hub motor and the bolt for the mudguard. I might take a hacksaw to that later in the project, but I'll be putting a torque arm on that lug too, so that might take care of the excess length. Thanks

Powered axle too tight a fit

Well so far, it's going well. I have most of the filing done, only the last little bit to go. I used a car jack to spread the forks about 10mm and the wheel will fit well. Looking at the attached photo, you can see lugs which obviously fit into the dropouts. My question is, should the lugs go...

Thanks. What's the best type of file to use? Anything else to look out for?

Powered axle too tight a fit

Hi I've just tried to put my new hub powered front wheel into the axle slot on my Tern Link P9 and discovered that it won't fit. It goes in a few mm but then the lugs seem to narrow and it won't go any farther. I seem to remember this is a common problem (with American bikes??). What's the best...

    Tern Link D8 Conversion

Well, I haven't seen it in the flesh yet, but here's a pic of the bracket attached to the shell of the frog battery. I'll see how it looks on the bike tomorrow and if it works out, I'll get whatever bolts I need and a lick of paint and hopefully I'll have the battery mounted by the weekend. I...

    Tern Link D8 Conversion

I looked at the British bike too and have to say I liked it, especially the neater fold. I'm in London for a few days and I see them all around. I won't be hopping onto trains every day so for me, it didn't seem worth the extra money. I'm extremely impressed with the P9 and was even debating...

    Tern Link D8 Conversion

Just about to start conversion on a P9. Great bike as standard. I'm using a front hub motor and a front mounted frog battery. I'll report on progress as hopefully I'll get a chance to start this week.

    Spreading a front fork

    Thanks. I'll be grand so.

    Spreading a front fork

My ebike kit is on the way and I'm going to be fitting a front hub motor to a Tern Link P9, which has already been fitted with a steel front fork. I'll be using a threaded bar and two bolts to spread the fork by around 10mm to make the motor fit. Do I need to worry about the two legs of the...

Frog battery on front of Tern folder

Hi Yes, I have an option on a battery very similar to that Dahon but it's a bit heavier and I think would spoil the looks. I know the nano but I have no interest in putting the battery in a bag. My idea is to be able to slip the battery out and put it in the rucksack that I'll be carrying...
