Help! What COMPLETELY LEGAL Ebike will get me up hills?

How much of your own effort are you prepared to put in to going up the hills? In simple terms 'Hill ascending power required' is made up of 'your input' plus 'motor input' If you're putting in zilch power then it's all down to the motor. On the other hand if you can contribute some power...

Conversion kit to make an e bike.

I'm a well practiced touring cyclist with many thousands of miles done. I no longer tour but I've now been riding my TSDZ2 mid drive conversion for around 6000 miles. Personally I've never damaged any gears or fluffed gear changes, don't seem to change gears any more than when unassisted and...

Following on from my introduction to this forum I have questions

Voltage Sag - a phenominon of all batteries, new or old, whereby the off-load voltage drops when the battery is put under load (i.e. draws current). As a battery ages (through time and/or usage), the voltage sags more dramatically and for instance, in a ebike where the power draw could be...

Conversion kit to make an e bike.

I've no personal experience of Yose Power but from other's posting on this forum, I get the general impression that they are amongst the better choices. As a geneal rule, conversion kits are made to a lowish price point and therefore it is not unreasonable for the odd problem to emerge. If you...

    Noisy mid drive Tong Sheng

So I went out for a longer test ride this morning (40+ miles, 50% quiet lanes so good for 'motor listening') and although this repaired bare motor is considerably quieter than before the change of bearings (pedestrians were literally turning their heads as I approached), it is still not as quiet...

Conversion kit to make an e bike.

There'll be a lot of options coming up in this post so I'll not be adding to all that. Alternatively I'd advise AGAINST Swytch (long lead time and CS comes in for a lot of stick) and Cytronex (similar comments re CS and rather pricey for what it is). EDIT - and just to add that both those kits...

    Noisy mid drive Tong Sheng

Thanks for the link Neil. Have a look at YT for 'TSDZ2 Motion study final' by Guy Dal (link) to see that when cycling with no power the Blue Gear* isolates the bare motor drive shaft from pedalling action, ie the bare motor isn't rotating with power off (or zero assist selected on display)...

    Noisy mid drive Tong Sheng

Hi Neal (@Nealh ), I didn't do much research at all about replacement bearings other than a brief query about the type of bearing seals and for reasons that I can't recall, I chose bearings with code ZZ. In the absence of any particular knowledge I went for bearings branded as 'Dunlop' which on...

    Noisy mid drive Tong Sheng

New bearings fitted, bare motor re-assembled and placed in main body and ........ this motor is now as quiet as the other motor that I have. Of the 4 original bearings, one of the 61800 RS wasn't quite as smooth as the others and maybe under high RPM/load was responsible for the noise, but at...

    Dodgy batteries ?

When you say the batteries are made in Germany etc., is that the individual battery cells you're referring to? It would be useful to evidence that claim.

A UK company which designs and manufactures here in the UK- ebike kits.

£1k for a kit isn't cheap and the battery can only be around 250wh (that's a guess as I didn't see the capacity on a quick look at their website). And of course it's bespoke, so no adding your own battery or fixing problems and I've seen more than one post where customers haven't been over...

Just looking for some advice please.

That's an interesting comment about rim wear and I'm suprised that this is the case (but I'm certainly not doubting what you say given your day job :) ). When you say 'increased inertia' is this something above and beyond just the weight/mass of a hub motor? I've done many thousands of miles...

    Noisy mid drive Tong Sheng

Since my last post I've been tinkering and am currently awaiting a new set of bearings for the rotor spindle to see (hopefully) if the motor runs quiet. Rather than duplicate my efforts, I've posted further information on the Endless Sphere fourm, so for those who might have an interest, the ES...

Just looking for some advice please.

..... and unless you particularly want it, don't bother with front suspension - the bike will be heavy enough with the motor and battery, let alone the weight of some cheepo suspension that probably achieves less than wide tyres run at a lowish pressure. So that means a frame that can accept...

    Titanium wrist electric shock risk?

+1 for that @Bogmonster666 Building batteries is most definitely not a light undertaking. As an aside you don't have to spend a lot of money on a spot welder to get something quite capable of spot welding 1.5mm nickel strip. Of course there is a current limit to 1.5mm nickel strip and if your...

    Titanium wrist electric shock risk?

An oft quoted rule of thumb is that more than 50v is required to present an electrocution problem - google it to get more info. I can't see that you with the titanium plate are at any substantially greater risk than someone without, but if you're into Marigolds, who am I to dissuade you :D.

Review my latest battery build? Molicel p42a 10s4p 21700

Looks to be a nice build - I'm no expert so I'm as keen as you are to see what others say/suggest before I get to my second build. Dare I ask what failed in the first build? And what is the thick grey padding material you've applied on top of the fish paper? Cheers,

    Dodgy batteries ?

An interesting term from Bosch there 'production and consolidation of the batteries' Batteries to me are 'battery packs' as in the big lumps that contain multiple battery cells, the BMS (and fuse? - lol) and a case. So Bosch could well be using battery cells produced under their QA systems...

    Dodgy batteries ?

Their answer is not acceptible. Irrespective of whether the Xinchi batteries come from Panasonic or not, they are not Panasonic and that is a trades description issue. But let's say they were from Panasonic - how do you know if they are the same quality/standard as those from Panasonic? Some...

    TSDZ2 wrench

I 'look after' four TSDZ2 (friends/family) and I've used the same OEM on wrench on all of those motors and I must have tightened/lossened the locknut 20+ times and (a) I've never had it come loose, (b) I tighten initially by hand and then tap the wrench with a hammer for maybe a further 1/3rd...
