European trip with bikes, what spares etc?

Switzerland also has some amazing relatively flat cycle routes as well. Interlaken for example is lovely and flat, and there are amazing views and flat rides to be had around lake Thun and Brienze. For Switzerland and cycling a good source of routes can be found on HKF - Maps. They offer paper...

    Wheel upgrade advice

I really rate the Swiss DT M442 wheel set that come factory fitted to both of my KTM's. They put up with all of my abuse, and have stayed straight and true. They also caused no hassle making them tubeless ready. In the case of the Macina Lycan, they have only required minor tensioning come...

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

Birg cable car station to Stechelberg part one. The long pause at 2.07 and 2.57 is because despite riding up the route, I had no idea of where to ride when coming back down.

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

Many thanks Lee. The trip for next year is already booked, and I have in mind to tackle a couple of very off piste sections. I did a few this time around, and actually had permission to do so, as some were on hiking routes, and I was very conscious of not wanting to pee people off. The proper...

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

A sunny afternoon run back down from Wegnernalp to Lauterbrunnen. The steepness increases quite considerably at about the 15 minute point. It's quite a climb up from the valley bottom, although I did manage it on a 1990's pedal mtb a couple of years ago.

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

Thankfully it was pretty much all tarmac and loose road stone today. Last year I had to stop four or five times over the last mile of the climb, as I was all but done in and couldn't get any traction. This year I made it up the last mile without stopping. I used tour for pretty much the whole...

    Bike choice

Given the comment by IR772, I'll save my opinion and comments for pm to you when I get back in the country in a few days times. But in the mean time, what is your intended use for the bike? Secondly, if you compare the bike that eBike shop are selling to that of the one that Electric Transport...

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

Sadly the last ride of the trip. 26 miles, 14 miles of which were pretty much continuous climbing, with an elevation gain of 6,430 ft https://www.strava.com/activities/668694415

sea otter electric bike race usa

An eMTB race series has been running in both Austria and Germany for the past two years, so it's nothing new. There is also an eMTB class here in Switzerland in just a few weeks times, held within a major world level mtb race.

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

Sadly a very disappointing ride yesterday evening/night. I set out to get some serious elevation gain in, and my chosen route can only be ridden in the evening/night when the mountain is empty of hikers. The weather turned bad in respect of low cloud and it was too dangerous for me to continue...

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

After yet another day of hiking, a short ride at 6.1 miles with the climbing being 3.6 miles along with an elevation gain of 1,907ft over the 3.6 miles. It was also the first ride in the rain, and to say that it was interesting would be an understatement. When the mtb guide book says to ride...

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

Sadly only time to grab a late afternoon ride of 17.7 miles, seven of which were solid climbing with an elevation gain of 5,349' over the seven miles, then roughly ten miles of lovely down hill riding to follow. Sadly slightly spoilt by countless walkers, but never mind...

eMTB owners photo and ride thread.

Nice one Lee. :) Good to see distance and elevation gain listed as well. That is a good bit of gain there given the distance. Back in the UK I'd often have to add probably another 10-15 miles to that to match it.

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

The weather helps. :) Yep two batteries, which is kind of annoying as I'm tending to only use a quarter or so of the second. Power setting wise, eco gets used for probably minutes only, then I guess 75 percent tour and the rest in sport. This is pretty much the first time that sport mode has...

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

Today nearly did for me. Roughly 35 miles with an elevation gain approaching 8,000ft! Made even worse by the rocky terrain. I'm f****d!!!!! This was just the start of the ride. I'm missing mud... Not!!!! I've certainly honed my rock garden climbs and descents over the last week. Clips can...

Has anyone actually seen a Renault Twizy on the road?

They have them as rental cars at Interlaken. They look as though they should be good fun.
