Is enough being done to bring new consumers to e-bikes?

Lenny's observations make sense but in a cold and practical sense... how can you compare a petrol bike to an e-bike though..think of everything you would lose? All the flexibility of e-bikes and the lack of restrictions makes them unique. I guess as an owner though I'm biased and Lenny is...

Is enough being done to bring new consumers to e-bikes?

What the industry needs is a real boost like a big contract from Royal Mail or some other corporates..or from the public sector..and maybe wider use by the police and other local services..I heard they're trialling e-bikes in some areas? Or a Christmas present from the government to the industry...

    BMS Battery conversion kit

I have nothing to add really to the excellent replies made already, just wanted to share my own experience.. I went for a front-wheel motor for ease of fitting and removal as I was worried about getting a puncture..but I don't think that should really be a deciding factor. I ended up fitting...

Is enough being done to bring new consumers to e-bikes?

Interesting thread Mark and I like your site and the research you're doing, very interesting and useful stuff. In the town where I live in Worcestershire with a 100k population I've only ever seen one other electric bike owner (aged 50+) although I see many cyclists daily of all ages, mostly...

Do you know if the same applies to the business PayPal account type?

Thanks very much Bob. We opted for a personal PayPal account because it allows the sender of donations to pick up the fee with an option (tick box) when you send funds. A bit cheeky I know, but it's only a small fee. PayPal also allows us to side-step the whole issue of forming a legal company...

Thanks David for your support and positive comments about the site its really appreciated. It would be great to have BEBA and Wisper behind the scheme as it benefits the industry as well bike owners. The project is still in its early days so there's a lot of work still to be done, but we're...

Near accident...who was in the wrong?

Absolutely! All the more reason to film your rides ;-) Any accident or dispute, you hopefully got it all there.

Hi David, thanks! It's entirely non-profit. Not a formal registered charity at this stage, but it will operate on that basis supported by volunteers...we have a tight little team already....any donations and sponsorship goes directly back into the scheme for the benefit of members. Use of...

Junk Mail-are you fed up with it

Here's an idea.. roll the junk mailing up and put it inside a used cardboard toilet roll tube... automatically adds £1 to the postage cost if the company has a free post address.

Junk Mail-are you fed up with it

Totally agree with you! It's one of my pet hates too, really annoys me. Especially since I have a sign on my door "no leaflets or occupier mail" and I've opted-out THREE times with Royal Mail at their freepost address, and still they deliver them. And all the pizza firms and "let us buy your own...

Near accident...who was in the wrong?

This has happened to me several times, and I consider myself lucky not to get clipped. As you say without the mirror and your eye on the traffic behind you, could end up in an accident easy. Motorists just come too close sometimes and go too fast past cyclists. It's a pity the government doesn't...

Poll: Help choose the CycleCharge charging-point sticker

Could something like this with a bicycle be a better approach? I'm in discussions with the designer who made this (a japanese guy)... He also did these... Re the previous green square design I posted earlier... I approached the person who sells a stock of similar green box icon images...

Poll: Help choose the CycleCharge charging-point sticker

The aim is to keep the scheme free for as long as possible, but we can't guarantee it will always be free and a (small) fee might have to be charged at some point in the future. So it might not be a good idea to make a free pledge on the sticker and then have to replace them all later. Plus we...

Poll: Help choose the CycleCharge charging-point sticker

This site which has a stock of images like this doesn't have any with a bicycle that could be adapted sadly and making a "clean" version with a blank background to drop in your own bicycle would be virtually impossible. Do you think even with the 2-pin plug it would be acceptable for the UK...

Poll: Help choose the CycleCharge charging-point sticker

Something like this you mean, but with a bike? And preferably a UK-style plug like yours! That's another thing, of all the stock art you can find, it's always international 2 pin-style, never UK.

Poll: Help choose the CycleCharge charging-point sticker

There's basically two ways we can go about this badge... 1) Try to provide as much info as possible and make it clear as possible what the sign means both to e-bikers and the general public alike. 2) Go for a more simple symbolic (design 1) approach, i.e. like where you see a wheelchair sign...

Poll: Help choose the CycleCharge charging-point sticker

Good points flecc. It's very difficult to try and get the choice of wording that everyone agrees on. I thought the recharge approach might be a clever play on words because we want to try and help businesses by encouraging e-bikers to use their facilities too.
