Maybe I should put a lock on it to give them an incentive? It's too easy that's the problem... ;-)

Haha I think you're right. As soon as they see the rust and cobwebs on it they think sod that and walk away. I did see a pick-up truck back in earlier and thought ay up this could be it...but was just visitors..

    First non E-commute

There's so many economic and environment benefits with electric bikes but adjusting back to cycling and getting fit like you're doing is surely really beneficial for long-term health. I think you're absolutely right about my own situation with feeling the pain after cycling any distance...

How long until someone nicks my bike...

I cleared out my shed today and put my old MTB outside it as I needed the space for storage... I was hoping the scrap metal collector would of been round to take it but he hasn't come today.. so I've left it out and I'm wondering how long it will take before someone takes it! It's in a...

    First non E-commute

Jerry has riding electric improved your fitness level a lot? How long have you been riding electric and did you cycle unassisted much before that? I only recently got back into cycling.. hadn't cycled since my childhood and although I'm reasonably fit from doing jogging every day, I found it...

Second long trip on self-build bike

If you were using your bike moderately, say twice a week and doing a full charge cycle each time, how long do you think it would take for the battery performance to degrade? After a year or maybe 2 years? And if you were using it daily, and charging every day, how much faster would it start to...

Second long trip on self-build bike

I don't know then.. all I can say is the motor is virtually silent when running except when starting up... the guy who owns rftec told me they are made for them in a Chinese factory, also there's no noticeable drag when pedalling unpowered...it feels to me virtually the same as riding the bike...

Second long trip on self-build bike

It came in the "Vitenso" branded kit (pre-laced into a wheel)..the motor has Vitenso engraved on it..they are specially made for RFTec in Austria (www.rftec.eu) I paid around 300 euros for the kit (without any battery) plus 30 euros for shipping.. The only downside to this supplier is that...

Second long trip on self-build bike

I also had planned to go for a 20" folding bike initially, as light as possible.. but then I saw this 26" full-size folding bike which was only 14.5kg and not much different in terms of weight to 20" folding bikes in my budget...plus it was cheap at £150.. as this was my first build I decided to...

Dealing with rain on self-build bikes

I had planned another trip this morning as the weather forecast was for a nice bright dry sunny day, however I woke up this morning to the ominous sign of dark cloud and rain droplets on the window... I decided to delay my trip and sure enough by 10am it was chucking it down with no mention of...

Second long trip on self-build bike

You are probably right Jerry, I must bow to your experience being fairly new to the scene.. I guess it depends how you want to ride and how much weight you're pulling... I'm quite light (just over 9 stone) and my bike is 20kg (including kit), I prefer to ride on pedal assist too and don't mind...

Second long trip on self-build bike

There has been a comment made that I should be looking at different battery technology for such a small battery which might give better performance...(presumably Li-Ion).. I'd be interested to compare if I can find a small Li-Ion... I did see one on AliExpress a few months ago which was 36v...

Second long trip on self-build bike

Yes not bad at all is it. I had to pay a bit of duty/VAT which was £5.83 (plus the usual extortionate £10 "handling fee" to FedEx of course!).. other batteries have been in use about 6-7 months+ now I think in the forum...Oldtimer was one of the first to buy one from this seller and says his are...

Second long trip on self-build bike

Phew you guys have a habit of reading my mind! I was just thinking the very same this morning and wondering what type of tyre to order! The City Slicks sound good but I'm always worried about punctures, particularly with going longer journeys..there's so much glass on the roads around...

    EVassemble

Nice review, looks like you got a good price on your stuff. Always good to have new reliable suppliers. Did your motor come with a wheel or are you going to lace it yourself?

    Left Or Right

I was thinking about this today while riding my bike! I have a thumb throttle not twist but I prefer it on the left. My first instinct was to put it on the right, but with my twist gears on the right I had limited space. It just feels better having it on the left side with the gears on the left...
