    Global Freezing, Warming or Neutral?

Yes much the same here and the roads were much worse today than last week. It took me an hour to do a 4 mile journey. Dreadfull journey with lightweight car, rear wheel drive, thin tyres at the front, and short wheel base. At 9:30 there was still a lot of school traffic on the road. With the...

    Global Freezing, Warming or Neutral?

I agree there's some hysterical people about but not many and certainly I wouldn't describe myself as such. I think hysteria is the wrong word and what we are seeing is a response to a blame society strongly encouraged by the press and TV. It's good for business. Even if they'd kept those...

    Global Freezing, Warming or Neutral?

It's much the same the same in a large part of IT. Add to that no salary awards, pay cuts, an end to final salary pension, and handing jobs over to India and it pretty much sums it up. It would be interesting to know what percentage of so called "employers" didn't make it in to work.

    Global Freezing, Warming or Neutral?

Depends on the company but in many, I know, if you take a day off work because you're snowed in you lose the pay for that day. I didn't go into work on the Tuesday but it made no difference. Courtesy of swingeing head count reductions over the last 5 years I have plenty of work to do. For that...

    Global Freezing, Warming or Neutral?

To be fair 1962 really was a different era. Far less cars and trucks on the road, probably more public transport, less communication options, less suiing, and a lot less people. In my day to day experience I haven't encountered any of the hysteria, mass absenteeism, panic buying and complaining...

Someone make this snow go away!!

:D No I think it's a genuine story. Nice to see she survived because it could have been very sad tale. "I am lucky; I am not paralysed or anything – I have just missed out on 12 hours’ pay" :D Injured cyclist Sarah Archdale rescued from snow in Bramley Garth, Burnholme (From York Press)

    Global Freezing, Warming or Neutral?

A timely discussion but the current inclement weather is of course irrelevent. I never doubted the Global warming trend but whether its mainly caused by people or solar activity etc - I've no idea. I suspect as usual it's a complex mix of many things. I seem to recall a report last year that the...

Someone make this snow go away!!

According to the weather forecast it's going to last a while yet. Priscilla, don't give in to temptation. Despite vowing not to venture out in anything less than 6C I foolishy gave in this morning at -2C. I made it to work ok only to fall off in spectacular fashion on the only salted and...

This is where I came in.....

I love burbing along on my bike. The countryside is greatly over rated. Historically I suppose the first people to ride horses were the first big cheats. The Romans were cheating something rotten with those long straight roads.

That's interesting. Does that mean that power assist to 17MPH could be legal?

    Cycle to work scheme

Yes I can't see that it's possible if you work for a company that refuses to take part or will only work with 1 chosen partner. I had no choice but to pay the full sum with taxes. To be honest It hasn't been a big deal and still an excellent investment anyway. However, given that many of...

    E-Bike Of The Year 2009?

I thought it was quite interesting and that the results were not unreasonable. :) Let's face it the forum has a tendency to get less than rivetting at times. ;)

    Folding bike

Good value. I like the Dahon Vitesse D7. I came close to buying a Dahon myself a couple of years ago but ended up with the Brompton (a pressie :) ). I use the folder the same way as you and while it doesn't get used that much these days it's very useful when I need it.
