    Trigger's Broom

I would like to point out that in Belgium, they have class of petrol moped limited to 25kph, insurance and helmet compulsory, no driving licence, tax or number plate.

    Cheer up

A drover from a huge cattle station in the outback appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. "Have you ever done anything of particular merit?" St. Peter asked. "Well, I can think of one thing," the drover offered. "Once, on a trip to the back blocks of Broken Hill out in New South Wales ...

Cadence Sensor, Torque Sensor or Throttle?

I suppose that this argument will go on for ages, all caused by German domination of the EU and the need to protect Bosch.

Cadence Sensor, Torque Sensor or Throttle?

Flecc, I see your point, but I recently replaced my 2 stroke outboard motor with a new 4 stroke, which also has electronics. Probably runs better, but at sea, reliability is a matter of life and death. The simplicity of a 2 stroke wins hands down over a complex 4 stroke. As I say, I prefer...

Cadence Sensor, Torque Sensor or Throttle?

My vote was throttle only. I am not all that fit and find walking over 100 yards a bit of a challenge now. On one of my bikes, the crank driver, I have removed the magnet ring and it is throttle only which suits me fine. On my folder, which has a hub motor, I still use the magnet ring, but often...

    Cheer up

Paddy took two stuffed dogs to the Antiques Road Show in Dublin. ”Aah!” said the presenter enthusiastically, “This is a very rare set produced by the celebrated Johns Brothers, taxidermists, who operated in London at the turn of the last century. Do you have any idea what they would fetch if...

Which car brands are worst for close passing?

Probably not because this entry was a logical conclusion in the debate and not some wild 'It's like the Nazis' assertion.

What's the Smart e-bike really like...

Jandals=Japanese sandals or Jesus Sandals. Strange NZ term for flip flops.

A salutary and life changing event for both parties

Frankly, I think that extending leads are bloody nuisance and indulge lazy dog walkers.

    New tyres. Cool or weird?

My Triumph Palm Beach Tourist (1950's pedal cycle) had white wall tyres. It looked, well this was long before 'cool' even before 'fab' so all I can say is attractive. Novelty soon wore off, as did the pristine whiteness.

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

My guess is that within 12 months it will all have blown over. Shops will supply bikes without the throttle, but if of Chinese origin, the controller will have provision for a throttle. China will sell throttles on ebay. As I said before, if the CPS will not prosecute a bike without lights...

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

Well, I can speak for Belgian cyclists and in the main they only have non throttle German bikes and are surprised to be shown my bike with a throttle. They assumed that such a thing was not possible.

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

I suppose that German type bikes will have a throttle giving full response up to 4 mph, but then will need proportional pedalling to achieve full power. China will probably ignore the requirement, but as they seem to prefer throttles as so many UK owners do, they will provide throttles one way...

Is anyone offering an e-bike with type approval and throttle?

Well, if as we are told, the CPS will no longer prosecute bikes without lights, who is going to worry about throttles?

What's the Smart e-bike really like...

after more than a few years, I have concluded that the gears that I need on my ebike are 32 inch, 60 inch and 100 inch. Two intermediate gears are also handy. Hub gears rarely deliver that wide a ratio.

    Efficient Battery Charging

I left the Phyllium battery of my Tonaro for about 5 months. When I put it on charge, it was still full. Thinking that it had lost capacity, I took it for a ride, but it was OK ????? Perhaps newer batteries are performing better, although this one is 4 years old.

Modification for those with limited or no leg movement

Griff, I can just see it. You park the bike up and another cyclist notices it and spends ages trying to work out how you pedal the machine
