Fordulike, Thanks for that, it opened a can of worms. For ordinary bikes there are only two chain sizes, 1/8 or 3/32. BUT The external width of the chains varies quite a lot. Wiki has a very good entry explaining it.

Could it have been that the bus was turning right into the junction, failed to spot the cyclist and there was a head on collision?

I cannot understand why the Police don't do something about this. It contributes to the general lawless view of bikes that motorists get and is no help to those who would like to see better cycling facilities. I notice that in Belgium, everyone uses lights.
