"How to protect your e-bike after huge spike in thefts"

If a thief had a big pair of cutters or a portable diamond disk cutter, why would they waste time trying to bypass a combination lock ?

    Folding bikes

As memory serves, when I first road a Brompton, it just seemd normal. But then I was able to ride a unicycle for a couple of miles back then.

    Folding bikes

Do you mean the one with the shock absorbing handlebars ? If so I had one of those, if you hit a small obstacle or pothole the handlebars would shift forwards to compensate ................

"Police stat shows that 260 electric powered bicycles were seized by officers last year"

For that would be the case. But without such clauses in existing laws, ministerial announcements should have no legal effect.

"Police stat shows that 260 electric powered bicycles were seized by officers last year"

Ah, IC, its to 500W, my mistake. So in this case, why cannot a minister just write a letter and in effect change the law ?

"Police stat shows that 260 electric powered bicycles were seized by officers last year"

So in the case of the current consultation around increasing the power limit to 350W, no change in the law is needed to make 350W legal, some Minister just needs to write a letter ?

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

31mm or 1.25" Those are Continental Contact Urban, light but very good puncture resistance. They ride well enough and are fine on cycle paths. Many years back similar tyres would have been just fine on the roads, but that was a time when the UK economy was in dire straits, but roads were...

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

There are now stretches of road in my area that when your out cycling, for basic safety reasons you have to cycle in the middle of the lane and block the vehicle traffic behind. Cycling a metre or so out from the parked cars would no doubt improve the flow of vehicle traffic, but if you did...

    Switching from swytch

I have a Swytch motor front wheel on my eBrompton at the moment. KT controller, 12 magnet PAS, LCD4 display. No problem.

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

No doubt Brompton are aware of that. Kinetics do conversion kits; https://www.kinetics-online.co.uk/folding-bikes/brompton/the-mtbrompton/ Fold does not look a lot different to a standard Brompton ..............

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

And there are rumours that Brompton are planning to release a 20" version with disk brakes and can take fatter tyres. If they do, I imagine it would be very popular indeed.

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

Glad I am not alone. I have been cycling on the so called 'roads' we have in the UK for maybe 55 years. The deterioation in the last couple of years of the safety of 'roads' for cyclists has been very marked indeed. And yes, my electrified MTB, with quality front suspension and fat Schawalbe...

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

A few years back eScooters might have just about been safe enough for our roads. But in the last 2-3 years or so there has been a very significant increase in real deep potholes on the roads and there seems little chance of these moonscape roads being sorted anytime soon. Its really becoming...

New to e-bikes, considering Brompton conversion.

For a Brompton an LCD4 fits nicely on the handlebars. Be careful with bigger displays, remember the Brompton is a folder and you dont want a large display poking out when you wheeling it folded around a shop or carrying it up the stairs.

New to e-bikes, considering Brompton conversion.

On my non-folding eBike, I use lights powered from the main eBike battery, obvious chice reallly. But as others have said using a dynamo on an eBike seems a bit odd. I recall from days gone past that with dynamos the 'lights went out' when you stopped. Hiding stationary in the dark does not...

New to e-bikes, considering Brompton conversion.

To quote their website; "Do I have to pedaling anyway? You can operate the motor at full power without pedaling" So not legal ?

New to e-bikes, considering Brompton conversion.

I did look at the range of friction drives etc, and initially they look attractive. However, considering how much you can spend overall on an electric Brompton, it was important to me that I could keep it on the road as much as possible. The implication of that to me was to stick to generic...

    Folding bikes

Indeed so. A Brompton can be unfolded ready to ride in about 10 seconds. But how long to unfold the bike in the picture ?

Exactly that. The motor does really replace the need for lots of gears to cope with hills ................

    Folding bikes

No need to grind the dropouts, there are front hub motors and conversion kits that fit direct in either the standard steel forks or indeed the titanium versions. I know the feeling. There are heaps of gearing options for a Brompton, wide ratio hubs etc. My non-electric Brompton had a...
