    Are ebikers saving the planet?

Indeed, I'm kind of split on the whole protest movement thing. I think it's good in that it serves as a constant reminder to the politicians of what hangs on the outcome of their deliberations (though one would hope they're pretty clear on this already), but as I alluded to earlier feel it also...

Copenhagen wheel -what do you think ?

Wow, impressive claims about the lifespan of the batteries (8 years!!), maybe there is something in the A123 cells...

Alien Gents Special II - first impressions

Just had a thought - you could always divert one of the brake cut out cables through another switch on the handlebars, i.e. have the seccond switch in parallel to the one in the brake lever, that's if it's a standard two core, connect to cut-out type arrangement, and not a 3 core hall sensor type.

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

Sadly I'm in a similar position, would love a wind turbine and to swap the rayburn for one that could use wooden pellets (it currently runs on coal), but can't afford either  Incidentaly, we too use a wood burner for heating, which is carbon neutral in my view. In fact we don't use any...

It's cold, dark, windy and raining: never mind !!

There are front lights to be seen by, and those to see by. I use both a hub dynamo lamp to see by and a cateye EL500 (now superseded) that has a very tight spot to be seen by - I get cars dipping their lights several hundred yards away. I'm hoping Santa' going to bring me one of these to...

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

Absolutely, but the scale of the problem shouldn't cause one to lose personal motivation. It's a question of quietly working toward a situation where the notion of 'being green' disapears, and is simply thought of as being normal. There is movement, what with tungsten lightbulbs being phased...

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

:) I generally only ride as far south as Snape, so maybe there's a third Wisperer in the county  I agree that the problems in society are complex, and the term 'environment' works on the local as well as the global scale. I just feel that in order to make a significant difference to the...

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

One of the best arguments I ever heard for acting on the assumtion that climate change is man made, and that we can do something about it, runs something like this: that the consequences of us doing nothing in the event that it's real far outweigh the inconvenience caused by acting only to find...

Copenhagen wheel -what do you think ?

Quite clever really, to use the phone as a wireless computer/controler, means that there is no external wiring on the bike at all, as I'd guess the batteries are internal to the hub. True, that it might be a bit awkward changing gears on a handlebar mounted phone, but I suppose with practice one...

    Keeping it clean!

Personally I use Windolene and a jay cloth, makes my wisper come up a treat :) . I chose this as it's a very gentle solvent "for all shiny surfaces"...

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

So I suppose the answer to the original question is: no, but at least it's a way that people can begin to do their bit, whilst waiting for the Powers That Be to come up with a magic cure for the foundation of most of the world's current problems .....

    kenda Tyres

I've done 2200 miles on mine, and have only changed them due to the recent turn in the weather, like Flecc's mine came off looking as good as new, and I intend to swap back when my winter tyres become impractical. Like the others say, keep going on them and see what happens. Oh, and I haven't...

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

But this is essentially what we mean when we talk about 'saving the planet'; the planet will still be here wether we survive or not, so maybe we should be honest and say "ensure our own survival, whilst absolving ourselves of guilt for our brutal abuse of the ecosystem". I don't get a warm fuzzy...

    Charging Li-ion batteries

Considering how generic most ebikes are, I really don't think you have a lot to worry about, there are some notable exceptions of very high quality, but there is a premium to be paid; the important thing is that it suits your needs, and that you're happy with it. Have a nice ride :) .

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

I in no way propose a Chinese system of government as 'the way to go', I was meerly using it as a device to contrast what is, or rather isn't happening here in the west ;) . I do think though, that the forthcomming general election is spectacularly badly timed, at a point where we need a...

    Ouch!

Sounds like the pedelec sensor has been damaged to me, this is located on the bottom bracket (the bit the pedal cranks go through). could be that it's simply become disconnected from the controler - follow the wires to check, or that the magnetic disc on the pedal spindle is either stuck or too...

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

I think a balance needs to be struck though, in no way should we return to the age of reverence when politicians etc. were regarded as a form of royalty, this being an overhang of our feudal past where we all 'knew our place', but some appreciation has to be given to the unseen and unpublicised...

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

:D oh very good....:D I agree, the pessimist in me says that we've irevocably screwed ourselves, and that there are way too many people on the planet, but I still think there are things we can do on a personal level to at least soften the enevitable fall.

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

:D Ok, you got me, I'm not a marine biologist, but agree with regard to the natural balance. And indeed to the adaption of that balance to changes. I just hope that the steps we might take are thought far enough through to ensure against any adverse consequences, owing to cause and effect. Seems...

    Are ebikers saving the planet?

Taking the notion of balance further, increasing algae growth would disrupt the balance of the marine food chain, but what the hell - you needn't worry about that in your air conditioned 4x4. It's amazing what 'great minds' can ignore when they want to achieve a preconcieved conclusion...
