    calliper brakes

The squeal can be fixed by twisting the blocks slightly, so the front of the pad contact the rim first, and also by cleaning the rims with something like windolene. Also, fine adjustment of the brakes so both blocks hit the rim at the same time is important. On the subject if brake inserts, I...

    Converting 48v to 36v

I'm no electronics expert, but my first thought would be to see if there's a dc to dc converter to achieve this rather than hacking your existing pack about. I'd have thought this would have a side benefit of placing less strain on the pack and extending it's life, but this is pure conjecture.

    Gloves

I too use fingerless ones up to the point when I can't feel my fingers anymore :D . Just got a pair of these, and I have to say they keep my hands suprisingly warm considering they're so lightweight.

    calliper brakes

*scurries to shed - has a good look at bike* Sadly I have to agree with Mussels, due to the geometry of the frame, there is no central mounting point - which is what this brake type requires, so it's V-brakes only I'm afraid :(

    Wisper 905SE Sport

Not sure quite what setup you're running, but if it's like mine with a spider and a chainring bolted to it, then would moving the ring to the other side of the spider help with chain alignment? Also, curiously enough I found that putting the ring on back to front made some improvement. The...

    Wisper 905SE Sport

I imagine it just confused the hell out of people! :D I've found as my setup has no chainguard or retaining rings on the chainwheel that if the derailer is slightly out it can introduce enough of what I think is known as 'chain suck' for the chain to slack enough around the chainring to come...

    Don't be stupid... like me.

Blimey! It's funny you talking about that day, wish I'd decided to ride into town. As it was, I ended up sitting in a smoke filled tube carriage with a lot of shaken and panicy people somewhere between King's Cross and Russel Square. Still, enough of this, we're all still here to enjoy the peace...

Me seen that A to B again!

Fair point, which is why I thought to use peak output, as this is easier to determine than the current rules which talk about continuous power output, which is a term that can be played around with somewhat. I wasn't proposing this as a means to enable e-bikes to become unlicenced speed...

    Wisper 905SE City 5 month - 3500 mile review

Well, this is what I was wondering - just a thought, as I noticed the thread about the panasonic batteries suffering in the cold, though probably not by enough to make such a thing worth bothering with, and I've yet to see any Siberian e-bikers posting here :D .

Me seen that A to B again!

Perhaps a scientific approach to clasification would be to use a percentage of a very fit athlete's power output to set the maximum power of an e-bike's motor. For example, a little cursory research indicate's that Chris Hoy's peak output is somewhere around 2.4kw, if a study was done into the...

    Wisper 905SE City 5 month - 3500 mile review

Has anyone thought of experimenting with a small thermostaticaly controlled heating circuit within the battery case, to negate the effects of winter battery syndrome? I'm aware the downside would be an additional drain on the battery itself, so it may not be viable, I just wondered if any...

    Home made pedelec/pedal torque sensor

Maybe all it needs is software set power ramp,as opposed to letting the input directly control the output. Speaking purely theoreticaly of course, with little knowlede of how complicated this would make the controller :D .

Watts-Up vs Turnigy power meter / analyser

Now if I wanted such a device, I think this would be the one to get, sensibly priced too!

So definately marketted at those with a large disposable income and magpie-like tendancies (ooh-look-shiny!!!). I know what you mean though about finding them strangely attractive, leads one to think wether an e-bike is still essentialy a bicycle, or rather a vehicle type in its own right. Maybe...

Has any one ever had their ebike stolen?

It's true what they say, "if it aint nailed down....." I suppose with some "people" it's a reflexive thing - no thought involved, more like an animal instinct.
