    Are ebikers saving the planet?

As the Horizon program shows, Climate Change is just one of the factors that will affect the future of the planet, and the weight of evidence leads to the conclusion that we have to adapt, and plan ahead in order to secure a viable future for all. I find the counter arguments are akin in...

Wisper 905 - servicing and freewheel remover?

Thats interesting, as I too toyed with the idea of cutting a standard tool in half, as when in place the freewheel itself would hold the haves together. Having a spanner round the two halves would help too. Sadly I don't have access to the equipment to try this, so will be very interested to...

Wisper 905 - servicing and freewheel remover?

I thought that the actual number of wintry/icy days as opposed to wet ones in winter was so few as to make studs a bit ott, so I hope they'll prove a good compromise :) .

Wisper 905 - servicing and freewheel remover?

Hi Alex, Talk about Suffolk Synchronicity,I've just changed my tyres for Continental Top Contact Winters :) . I found that the rear wheel came off a lot easier when I removed the derailer guard thingy first, then undid the wheelnut completely, so both it and the torque washer were clear of...

    Mini electrical connectors?

could this be what you're after? The connectors commonly used in e-bikes seem to be made by a Chinese compant called Wuxing, but I've not found a source for them in the UK, so somewhere like Farnell is the UK alternative.

    UK e-Bike Market

Saw an interesting documentary about the history of the car in the UK, which basically concluded that we're addicted to the things due to the now fantastic notion of the 'freedom of the open road'. It struck me that what is now lost to motoring, is exactly what I love about cycling in that due...

Cytronex bike on Gadget Show Tonight

Continental Top Contact Winter I've been looking at those - how do find the rolling resistance, do they feel sluggish at all? I only ask as I'm lucky enough to spend the majority of my ride at close to (my:D) maximum speed. How would you rate them against the original Wisper Kendas?

Energy, Global Warming, and Electric Bicycles (Energy Flow Analysis)

Well, being something of a realist, I can see that en route battery swapping stations for e-bikes are a far off fantasy, and that a leasing scheme would only be of use for comitted regular users. I do believe though, that Lemmy has a point, and think that in the long run, if there's any...

    Garmin Edge Bike sat nav

In fact they do quite a range, but seem somewhat overpriced to me, seeing as you can buy a Nuvi 205 on Amazon for c.£60. Though primarily designed for use in a car, it does have an option for cycling - might need a waterproof case though :D

    Try before you buy

Hi David, interesting you should mention the rattle, I noticed this recently on my 905, and found it to be the controller knocking against the inside of it's housing. This was easily fixed with some packing to wedge it in - very small bits of cardboard, in my case as I was wary of over...

Energy, Global Warming, and Electric Bicycles (Energy Flow Analysis)

Really? It seems depressingly slow to me, yes we hear about new developments all the time, but there's hardly a 'moore's Law' in terms of bringing the new innovations to market. As e-bikes seem to be somewhat standardised with regard to voltage mainly being a choice between 24 & 36v, then as...

Energy, Global Warming, and Electric Bicycles (Energy Flow Analysis)

At the time of the industrial revolution, there was initially no infrastructure to support it, and so vast sums of capital were invested in digging canals, building steam engines etc. I contend that currently what is lacking is not the technology so much as the will to employ it. The general...

    Helmet debate... new twist

Well said Flecc!! I just wish the majority of drivers took it so seriously. Mitigating factors aside, I blame my recent high speed embrace with the tarmac on a momentary lapse of my own attention, and know from past experience that my subconcious will now be on the alert for this in future. For...

    Wisper Crash "test"

Thankyou everybody for your kind remarks, I'm starting to feel a bit less daft :o, though I suspect the principal factor was that it's a route I've ridden many times before, and so I was being a bit too blasé. I'd also had a fairly heavy day at work and maybe wasn't paying enough attention - hey...

    Wisper Crash "test"

Last Thursday, on my way home from work, I was turning a corner onto an incline, so trying to keep as much momentum as possible, when the front wheel lost all grip on the road with enevitable consequences. I ended up with four stitches in my chin, and being generally the worse for wear. I...

What are the major factors that persuaded you to get an electric bike?

I don't drive, and so have always cycled and used public transport. Due to the physical nature of my job, I found that, after leaving London, the 25mile round trip to work was too much of an energy drain, to the point where it was impeding my performance at work and getting in the way of my...

    £180 Electric Bike

I think as has ben alluded to here, that it's all to do with the way the bike is percieved. It seems to me that the average oppinion in the UK is that cycling is at best a quirky hobby, and certainly not 'normal', or simply something that children do. There is also the fear factor, with people...

    Drivers in the dock: Tonight

I find the prevalence of American style SUVs and pickups leads to many such dodgy overtaking manovers, sadly it seems that people are simply unaware of how big their "cars" are. There is, of course, the standard oafish impatience when they get 'stuck' behind a cyclist, but I think that in the...
