The duty rates for assembled products like eBikes are often higher than for component parts such as those found in kits. Analyzing the kit in its different component parts and ascribing relevant codes to the bits gives duty rates around 2-2.8%. Or it would be if the shipment actually qualifies...

I bought a CST kit and that same battery d8veh linked plus a heap of extra bits from BMS Battery. Without going into details, the declaration made by the supplier at their own instigation without reference to me set the duty and VAT rate, which came in at £0 duty and £32 VAT. It's not like...

Nice restoration. Can I ask ... what did you use to remove the corrosion on the seat tube ? There's a 10-year old bike in the garage which was only ever ridden for less than a mile, and the only thing wrong with it is some corrosion on the handlebars which looks a bit like the stuff on your...

That kit looks overkill for what you likely need and powerful front hub motors create their own issues as regards forks etc. Are you able to charge 'on-bike' at work ? If not then ease of disconnecting and removing battery to recharge is an issue and the larger the battery the more cumbersome...

An Alfine-11 is about £350 now and Rohloffs can be had for £750 retail from Bike-Discount.de .. Component cost to a manufacturer is a fraction of those figures. The ultra-bright LED lighting probably realistically costs the manufacturer no more than about £60 and won't be as powerful as a £30...
