    Cycle Mirror

The plastic reflector on my cheapo mirror pinged out a few times when I clipped it. A lump of Blu-tack fettled it. Quality engineering around here, I tell you.

    Smart ebike out of production?

There was me thinking it might be safe to clear my (very short) ignore list. Best to hang fire on that for a bit.

    Cycle Mirror

I have one of these - it does the job fine. Given that a mirror inevitably gets clouted from time to time, I think the Mirrcycle is a bit over done. I also have a couple of Zefal Doobacks, just because it's what the shop had at the time. They also do the job, although as commented up thread...

    Have I missed anything?

A car pump will do. A track pump is designed for bicycles and would probably be slightly easier to use. It will also do the higher pressures required by road bike riders, but that's not something that need concern you. Sixty psi sounds fine, although you could run a few more psi in the rear...

    Shortlist down to 2 (Orbea/Wisper) - Thoughts/Comments

I agree that 'crank drives eat chains' is not borne out by experience. Just to complicate matters, I believe my Rose doesn't wear the chain partly because it has hub gears - the chain line is always perfect and there's no scraping across a cassette to change gears. If there is a difference in...

    Have I missed anything?

As with all things, first impressions count. Looks like you are off to a good start. You were quite rightly concerned about punctures - they are the most likely cause of a breakdown. Keeping plenty of air in the tyres will help prevent them. Have you got a track pump? You only need one...

    Shortlist down to 2 (Orbea/Wisper) - Thoughts/Comments

The Orbea looks expensive for what it is - more than £2K for basic bike bits, an active motor and the smaller battery. Have a look for KTM and Cube bikes. You could get better bike bits, the 500wh battery and the Performance motor for the same, or less.

    Recommendations please.

He wants a prop stand, dummkopf. This one is good quality and fits my Cannondale 29er MTB, so should fit the Haibike - assuming it's a hardtail. Not so sure about a stand for a full sus bike. http://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/hebie-side-stand-672-26-28-black-27579

    Spare Inner Tube Advice

Removing a hub wheel can be a faff, although most modern hub bikes are designed to make it reasonably straightforward. It may be no more than pulling a connector apart. The motor casing might be anchored to the frame in some way, usually by means of a plate called a torque arm. If so, you...

    Spare Inner Tube Advice

I also carry, but have never had to use, a Gaadi. They are more bulky than ordinary tubes, but a bit of meat in a tube is no bad thing in other respects. If you go for ordinary tubes, buy branded, Schwalbe or Conti are as good as any. You will also need to know how to remove the motor wheel...

A salutary and life changing event for both parties

In some of those circumstances, the driver's insurance will cover third party liabilities but not cover the driver or his car.

A salutary and life changing event for both parties

The insurance position was complicated slightly because the woman was walking the dog on behalf of a friend. It may well have been her policy, the dog being irrelevant in that scenario. Or it may have been the dog owner's policy, particularly if she had one covering risks directly flowing from...

    Oxydrive kits

Worth asking directly. It's always worth doing that for any purchase, but Oxydrive have proved to be amenable in the past.

    Finally Bought one

Croxden of this parish has bought several bikes from Onbike and speaks very well of them. Onbike only sell quality bikes which makes their job easier once they have a prospective customer prepared to pay the appropriate sum.

    Finally Bought one

Welcome to the world of properly engineered crank ebikes. I take the ride of my Bosch bikes for granted - until I try something else. All hub bikes I've tried are, in one way or several, inferior in the way they deliver assistance. I've noticed more and more trekking Bosch bikes have a rack...

What should I buy as my first e bike?

Whereabouts in the country are you? You need to give an ebike a whirl. As a specialist forum, we tend to be anal about specs on here. But in broad terms, all legal ebikes are much of a muchness. A try on any ebike will give you a good idea of power and achievable speed.

What should I buy as my first e bike?

Have you tried any ebikes? Your remarks about 60 miles and a throttle suggest you may be expecting too much. None of the legal ones are balls of fire, quite the reverse. The commute to your new job is doable, but even then it will take around an hour each way. Two hours or more a day on a...

What's the Smart e-bike really like...

I had a brief ride on a Cannondale Monoshoc push bike and liked it. Seems to me a good solution for road and cycle path riding. The sus forks on most ebikes - including my Rose - are the worst of both worlds. Heavy, but they still don't provide much in the way of smooth, hydraulic...

    Juicy folding bike (compact click)

All folding ebikes are heavy lumps, but only you can decide if the bike is too heavy or too lumpy. It doesn't really matter what make of bike, they are all pretty much the same in terms of weight and lumpiness. The good news is the bike should do your five mile commute, and Juicy is a decent...
