    variable regenerative braking

I think the Oxygen MTB - and possibly other Oxygen bikes - has switchable regenerative braking.

    Replacement spokes

A competent bike shop could cut and thread a spoke to length.

    Derestricted Impulse 2 experiences

I can't match that, although I've done a battery in 20 miles in North Yorkshire. Yet fifty miles is doable from the same battery. Which demonstrates why the range question is so hard to answer.

    Cycle Mirror

I can't agree weight is irrelevant on an ebike. A few grammes difference is not important between one mirror or another. But putting several heavy accessories on an ebike will see the weight mount up, and it will have an impact on handling (on and off the bike), responsiveness, and battery range.

Ebike to keep up with fast group

Even if made welcome, the OP will have a problem staying within the peloton. They will be faster on the flat and downhills, but much slower up hill. The wide speed range will present a safety hazard if they ride close. It could be done by keeping clear of the group, but that rather defeats...

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

No doubt there will be some who will say an 11 speed chain is just as strong, but I think the point about more widely available, and cheaper, 10 speed chains and associated bits and pieces is a good one. I agree you can't go wrong with a KMC chain, and there's no need to spend a lot on one.

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

Funny you should mention the 11-42 cassette - it cropped up in a conversation I had today with Chris, the manager of my local bike shop. He's in the habit of buying a bike or two a year which, at staff discount, he can sell after using them for a few months without losing much money. It gives...

Ebike to keep up with fast group

Have you established if you will be welcome to join the fast group? Roadies, particularly quick ones, are notorious for their hostility to ebikers. They can also be very cliquey and unwelcoming to any new rider, whatever bike he has.

Front hub motor/kit with roller brake

The fitted lights are another complication, depending on how they are powered. I know the bike has a front coaster brake, but I suspect it also has a front dynamo in the hub. You will lose that with a front hub motor.

Freego raptor or another ...advice pls

Rider preference is all, so let's hope you can get on with Typhoon. One thing to check with a 29er is toe clearance. It can be tight with the big wheel and a relatively voluminous tyre. Think also about mudguards, traditional ones will reduce the clearance still further. You may not want...

Hello all, thanks for the forum!

Your are over thinking this. Your experience with the road bikes will be mirrored by ebikes. The more expensive one is likely to be more reliable. But it's still a crystal ball job. As a commuter, reliability is most important. Kalkhoffs do seem a bit more hit and miss than they used to be...

Freego raptor or another ...advice pls

I hear what you are saying about wheel sizes, but it's irrelevant to the fit of the bike - or should be if the frame is properly designed. Fit is down to the relationship between the three points of contact - saddle, pedals and handlebars. The first two are most important. The distance...

Which is better on steep hills with a heavy riding weight, the Big Bear or the Krieger?

Lowering the gearing on your Krieger would improve its hill climbing. I'm not familiar with the bike, but fitting a smaller ring at the front, or a bigger big cog at the back should be fairly straightforward.

    Haibike SDuro Faults

I would put a rough wrap of masking tape around the base of the installed battery. Bit of a faff for every ride, but I reckon it would keep the majority of debris and even water away from the terminals.

    Does bicycle weight really matter?

I long for the day a Cytronex or Coboc would be my ideal ebike.

    Does bicycle weight really matter?

Just to be clear on the price, Justebikes is offering the Coboc for £3,299. http://justebikes.co.uk/products/coboc-electric-road-bike/

It would if the motor was a Bosch, but it's a Yamaha.

    Does bicycle weight really matter?

Your remark about the artisan bike builder led me to speculate about the cost of self building a similar bike to the Coboc. Looks like £1K or so would do it easily, which makes the Coboc's price of £3K+ appear even dearer than I thought.

ADVICE NEEDED UPGRADE VOLT PULSE TO 500 OR 750W

Not much point in test riding the bikes. Any fine nuances of lightweight cycling will be obliterated by the kit. The only important thing is the bike is a good fit. You can get a good idea of that by sitting on it or from a short ride, but you will only truly know after you've done a few...

    Smart ebike out of production?

Only an oik would put a tow bar on a Rolls. I blame new money.
