How long should my ebike chain last?

Alfine 11 gearing is high, I reduced mine on my Rose bike. I also agree about the hub's quality, it doesn't have a bomb proof feel to it. Madison/Shmano replaced mine out of warranty, which was good, but the fact it needed replacing says a lot. On the same cogs and sprockets, the Rohloff has...

    Help choosing bikeive

In a motorhome application it's not so much the rack as the mount. Getting secure anchor points on the rear of a coachbuilt vehicle is not always straightforward, although some motorhomes have ladders on the back, so it can be done.

    Help choosing bikeive

Any ebike matching your spec will be 20kg or more, which could present two problems. Lifting the bike onto the motorhome rack, which I'm guessing could be shoulder height. Bigger problem may be overall weight. The rack, to be on the safe side, will need to be rated at 50kg. I know nothing...

    Whisper v Gazelle v Kalkoff

The question is too general to give much other than a general reply. Kalkhoff are having lots of problems with motors, so for me that would rule out an otherwise quality bicycle. Gazelles are famously well-made, you won't get better. Wispers are generally cheaper, but there's nothing wrong...

How long should my ebike chain last?

Something's amiss here. A chain on a hub gear bike has a high line, always runs perfectly straight, and is never derailed, all of which adds to longevity. The chain and sprockets on the Raleigh will be of similar quality to any other Bosch bike, so should last a few thousand miles. I can't...

I hope it's not a matter of the correct use of the apostrophe. Two fails in a seven word sentence is good going.

    Felt Lebowsk e fat mtb

Nice - and interesting - bike. The leaf fork is said to work well, but for some reason has never caught on. Reassuring to see DT Swiss stamped on the wheels. The unbranded wheels on some quite pricey fat bikes aren't up to the job. Different makes of tyres is a bit odd. Some mountain bikes...

Newbie battery mileage / usage questions

Fat bike puts a slightly different complexion on your original question. Fat bikes roll better than many people imagine, but those big, podgy tyres will inevitably increase your battery consumption a bit.

    Battery performance/memory - new Kalkhoff

The battery range display does calculate from the last few miles, so it is all but useless. I managed to get mine to show 100+ miles on a part-used 400wh battery on a near 10 mile stretch of the C2C path which is mostly a gentle decline. If those unusually favourable conditions continued for...

Newbie battery mileage / usage questions

So many variables it's impossible to give an accurate prediction. But a 400w battery ought to do your 20+ miles in the circumstances you suggest. My best guess is you could exceed 30 miles, but not 40.

About to purchase Kalkhoff Agattu 8 - advice appreciated

Juicy would be worth a look. Not least because the OP was thinking about a Volt Kensington and Juicy offer something similar.

About to purchase Kalkhoff Agattu 8 - advice appreciated

Sixty-plus miles in a hilly area is a lot for a single battery. Kalkhoff is one the few recognised makes that offer a 17ah battery, which ought to be big enough. The reliability question is a difficult one, there's no doubt a lot of Impulse motors have failed. On t'other hand, Kalkhoff/the...

looking for an £800-1000, mid drive, 750w

If you need to do the commute some days without pedalling, you would be better off with a petrol moped. Faster, marginally safer, more usable in bad weather, and fully legal. Using a 750w bike for occasional leisure rides is one thing, but I think you are asking for unwanted attention if you...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

The chain on my Rose/Bosch sometimes creeps forward on freewheel. I reckon it's the Alfine 11 hub gear, not least because the creeping all but stopped after I changed the oil.

Bit confused about the Bosch Drive Unit Performance CX

All motors deliver higher peak power than their nominal watt rating. The Bosch CX is fully road legal, as are the other crank drives from the likes of Yamaha and Shimano, which also peak at higher than 250w. Bosch has decided to release figures for the CX, but they are meaningless. None of us...

Test ride on a kalkhoff agattu 8 speed

Let's hope 50 Cycles' grasp of the problem is better than their grasp of correct written English. Presumably they mean 'pawls' not 'pulls', but only they know why pedal and torque are capitalised. And no wonder the motor breaks when it has the weight of multiple riders on it, or did they mean...

    EBay offer unbranded

The ebay bike is nothing special - basic Chinese at an appropriately basic price. I would rather buy from an ebike retailer than someone whose other listings include veterinary bandages and a weed control membrane. The likes of woosh, Cyclezee or Kudos would supply a better bike and some after...

Brompton Kers (kinetic energy recovery system)

Interesting stuff, although I see production models are still due 'next year'. Brompton have been saying that for five years or more. This time, it does look like we will finally see a factory eBrompton - sometime.

    Kalkhoff Sahel Compact

The Hercules looks decent, but I take it you are aware it's £2,200 with a 400wh battery and £2,400 with a 500wh. The folded package will still be heavy and unwieldy, but shorter, so it should be liftable into a small hatchback with the rear seats folded. Nexus hub gears are fine, and the...

Test ride on a kalkhoff agattu 8 speed

One of the reasons for buying a premium crank drive bike is you can use it how you like. Failures on Bosch bikes are not unknown, but I've thrashed mine up some steep banks and some long, draggy, steep in parts, passes. The motor casing doesn't get warm, which indicates the Bosch is a properly...
