    Kalkhoff Sahel Compact

The AVE MH7 is similar, 20" wheels, balloon tyres, compact frame. But it has the Bosch motor. I have the old model. To 'fold', the handlebar flops down, and the forks turn 180 degrees, shortening the overall package. Just the job for lifting in and out of a hatchback car. You might find a...

Hello Pedelecs! I'd be very appreciative of any advice on bike buying...

A savvy thief wouldn't steal an ebike, they are heavy and not much use without the charger and keys for the battery lock. Trouble is, many thieves will steal anything just because it's there and they can. Only you can judge the safety of the location where you intend to leave the bike, but...

Gear hub for Bafang bbs01 mid drive kit

Is the tensioner in the link the right one for a hub gear? My retro-fitted Shimano one fits over the hub's axle and is secured by the dome nut. It also has only one cog, which is all you need. In the pic, the chain runs over the cog, but it also works running under it.

New 2016 Schwalbe Marathon Plus MTB looks good

Going from 2.3 to 2.0 would be fine, and you may not notice much difference. Going the other way to 3.0 is quite a big jump, the tyre might not sit well in the rim due to the beads being pinched closer together than they are designed to be. Even if that works, you might have some clearance...

Elec Bikes Needed Lake District - confused!

The Bosch system is a bit more refined in the way it delivers power, but there's no evidence to say it's 'much better' in any respect. A selling point for me would be the availability of a 500wh battery on the Bosch. You are riding in the Lake District, very up and down, so battery capacity...

Haibike sDuro HardSeven SL 2015 Yamaha (7 Month 1600 Miles)

I wonder if you need to look at your use and chain maintenance regime for the cause of the accelerated wear. You are using the bike a lot on eco, even no power, so the transmission is not being stressed at all by extra power, unless you are stronger than Froomey. I have two Bosch bikes, both...

Looking for a good quality bike

Your work is 30 miles or less round trip, so I'm not sure why you want a 50 mile battery. Bosch bikes come mostly in two battery sizes, 400 watt/hour and 500 watt/hour. Roughly, the 400 will do 40 miles and the 500 about 50. As regards reliability, the Bosch motor seems as reliable as any...

Looking for a good quality bike

A Raleigh Motus would do the job nicely. No more than £2K, and possibly a bit less if the OP wants to hunt around a bit. https://www.e-bikeshop.co.uk/Raleigh-Motus-2016-Electric-Bike

Installation Problems With My New Kit

Depending on the cassette, you could probably put the smallest cog on first - next to the spokes - then the rest of the cogs in order. This would have the effect of moving all cogs over by one, enabling you to use a bigger one as your 'first' gear. Bit of a lash-up, but plenty of mountain...

Hello Pedelecs! I'd be very appreciative of any advice on bike buying...

Charging at work would mean carrying the charger or buying a second one. Probably simpler to get a bike that would do the round trip. Most will get 30 miles with some pedalling - which you want to do. An upright position and your height leads us towards a step-through, although much will...

Looking for a bike under £2k

As others are saying, you first need to grasp the legal position of 15mph+ ebiking and your attitude to it, before deciding what bike to buy. The regulations are complex, but the speed cut off part is not, so there is no way of legally using a 15mph+ ebike on the road. Registration is all but...

    Newbie ebiker

You sound like a good candidate for a Bosch bike. No throttle, and the torque sensor means you pedal harder on climbs and use the gears just like your ordinary bikes. The extra weight means it's not quite the same pure cycling experience, extra care needed to balance for one thing. But...

Not cheap, but nice spec. If you don't get on with it, you will definitely know e-mountain biking is not for you. http://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/felt-lebowske-470316?currency=3&delivery_country=190&varid=470324&gclid=CM_epp6x-MwCFQWfGwod2b8GyQ

    Newbie Big Bear guy :)

I have hydraulic discs on three bikes and none have needed any adjustment in a total of thousands of miles. Pad wear is also minimal. All are original equipment and different makes, Tektro Auriga on the MH7, Magura on the Rose, and Shimano on my push bike. There's a clear league table, the...

    G-tech bike,has anyone seen a proper test

No doubt correct for the realistic customer who is prepared to pay for what he wants and accepts everyone has to make a living. Too many people are driven solely by price and buy the cheapest bike they can find online. It will be a pile of cack, but those sort of customers get what they...

    E-bike stockists in North-East

Direct Car Parts and Bike Shop just outside Durham City has a handful of KTMs, Haibikes and other brands. The nearest retailer with a wider selection of bikes would, I reckon, be The Electric Transport Shop in York. Another possibility is the Electric Cycle Centre in Penrith...

    Newbie Big Bear guy :)

A heavy ebike with a heavy rider takes a bit of stopping. Hydraulic discs tend to never go out of adjustment and always offer plenty of power. Worth trying the cable disc on the Bear, but several owners on here have found it wanting in terms of power and reliability.

Factually accurate and the inference the Avid is an improvement is also fair. However, I'm not a fan of cable discs, no matter what bike they are fitted to. Particularly as a bomb proof Shimano hydraulic is a relatively cheap and simple upgrade.

    What does this bit do???

The Cyclezee torque arm looks a much better job for a powerful motor, not least because of the double anchor to the chain stay.
