Ramblings on the many bikes i have tested recently.

Kalkhoff Agattu Premium C11 Impulse (2012 model on 2013 software) This was the first bike i tested, and the first crank drive bike i've ridden. First thoughts on riding it were that it was very comfortable. The assistance is very smooth and fairly quiet. It seems the indexing on the hub gear...

Hi I am from the northeast and researching which Ebike to buy ...

I think for the very hilly areas you mention you may find a crank drive bike more suitable than a hub motor, as they benefit from gear reduction on the very steep hills. I've recently tested the Bosch bikes and Tonaro bikes back to back and found the Bosch equipped bikes climbed a very steep 15%...

This looks like the area to visit for people in the market for a good quality electric bike.

Yet Another London Cyclist Death Today

Railings, that's one thing we could easily fix. It seems to me that many of these fatalities happen when the railings cut off the cyclist's escape route. If something is absolutely required to stop vehicles mounting the curb then it should be evenly space bollards, never railings on left turns.

    Bosch vs Impulse (again)

Hmmm, shouldnt really have to go to so much hassle just to make it a good climber.

    Bosch vs Impulse (again)

Good advice Flecc, perhaps i need to test the Impulse again, trouble is, even Loughborough is 100+ miles one way and there's not really any challenging hills there. Perhaps i need a trip to London to er... visit my sister. Not that i'll be straight to 50cycles to test bikes, honest...

Wisper 905se City S for sale

For sale, my Wisper 905, this bike is three years old and is in excellent condition, having covered just 703 miles since it was bought three years ago. The battery doesn't seem to have lost any range at all, and is still capable of 50 miles in average terrain using medium assist. In fact i've...

    Bosch vs Impulse (again)

I'm in central Manchester, however much of my riding is in the surrounding national parks (peaks, dales, lakes, Snowdonia). How do you find the Nexus 8 on your Macina? I had some trouble shifting down on the one i tested. That was really my only complaint about the bike though.

The amazing Grace MX2 sneak preview

I'm not sure i see what it's for, with rigid forks and slick tyres it's no mountain bike anymore, yet it still has a huge beefy frame like a mountain bike.

    Bosch vs Impulse (again)

I know this has been discussed before, but it was the older versions of both systems. I've now test rode two 250w Bosch systems (a KTM Macina Cross and a BH Emotion Xenion) and two Kalkhoff Aggatus (the C11 and the C8). I really wanted to like the Impulse, because of the larger batteries...

    Kalkhoff's shameful documentation

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but i have noticed this worrying trend, it's not just ebikes but normal human powered bikes too. I have probably had around 30 bikes since the mid-nineties and progressively the documentation provided has got worse. My first quality bikes came with Shimano data...

    Cycle schemes

I bought a Boardman Hybrid Pro on the cyclescheme in June 2012. My scheme has just ended and all i received from my employer (a FTSE30 company) was an email saying that they'd come to an arrangement to HMRC and ownership would be transferred to me automatically at no cost, and i i didnt want to...

Thanks, confirms my thoughts on today's test rides.

More of a return after a long break.

Thanks. Yes, Peel Tower, the rough road up to that is a great test of any ebike. The Wisper cant make it, the Aurora could barely. How does your KTM cope?

Car keys or ask them to leave you with the full asking price in cash before they take it out.

More of a return after a long break.

When i was last posting here i had my somewhat controversial Alien Aurora, i'm still riding ebikes, but the Aurora was long since replaced with a Wisper 905. However my return to the forums is because i quite fancy a crank drive bike. Recent rides around the peak district have really...

    Alien Aurora

I'm selling my beloved Aurora. I'm moving into a new house very close to work, so i have no need of a commuter anymore. Sad to see it go. Details on eBay here: Aurora on eBay If anyone on here wants it, i'll cancel the auction once i have the cash in hand (or bank transfer). I want £750...

    Choosing the perfect bike camera...

A purpose built action camera is the way to go. Generally they overcome camera shake by using ultra-wide angles. The Go-Pro HD is 170 degrees. You need at least 110 degrees to get something that will be fairly steady. I'm very happy with the quality of my Camsports HDmax Extreme, which is 110 or...

    Early morning rides

I always wear gloves, because in the event of a crash you always tend to scrape your hands. Also, nettles feature prominently on my local trails in summer and even light gloves keep them at bay.
