A working dongle - at last

No need for a spider tool - tap it around with a blunt chisel or screwdriver, bearing in mind it's a left hand thread. The crank can be pulled with a standard Shimano crank puller which any competent bike mechanic will already have. I've not pulled one of the latest motors to bits, but it...

Using car brake cleaner on bike hydraulic brake calipers and discs?

No reason not to. I use a Muc-Off one which is sold for motorbikes and bikes. Alternatively, anything that lightly abrades the rotor will do, emery cloth or the yellow liquid kitchen cleaner. An old MTB trick is to smear some mud on the rotor and let riding do the job for you. You could also...

My Brompton Nano was good fun in towns on the throttle. A bit more grunt from the motor would have made it even funner.

    Volt Metro Bike Bag

The bag is called Dimpa, not Dimpla as I posted earlier. Here's a fascinating vid of a Brompton being put in one.

    Folders

A cheap folder with enough grunt for the throttle to 'take over for a while' is a tall order. A lot of them run at 24 volts and only have a 200 watt motor. The woosh Gallego has 36 volts and a reasonably perky 250 watt motor. The Kudos Secret has 220 watts, but Dave has always said it pulls...

    Volt Metro Bike Bag

I think the OP is after a bag in which to put the folded bike. The Dimpla bag from Ikea is known to be a good fit for a Brompton. Almost certainly too small for a Volt Metro, but Ikea may have a bigger version.

    7th London Cyclist Death Today

Some stats for London in this link. Arguably too many to take in, but it shows the number of deaths has remained about the same, despite a large increase in the number of journeys. The gender imbalance is not explained. http://www.gicentre.net/blog/2013/11/24/risk-cycling-and-denominator-neglect

    Kalkhoff agattu clacking noise

A skipping chain can also give a clacking noise.

My guess is the rear wheel, the lump there looks too big to be the motor.

Puncture-proof tyres for mixed on/off-road bike

Wide tyres can roll better than narrow ones, so don't get too hung up on width. http://www.schwalbe.com/en/rollwiderstand.html

    Haibike sduro allmtn rx

Ah, could be why the question is being asked. If I wanted a Haibike and had a decent dealer in striking range, the saving would have to be enormous to persuade me to go elsewhere.

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

I've said for a while we are not so much suffering from global warming as global wetting. Out of interest, what makes you think a hub drive couldn't be a year round bike? I know your BH was a dead loss, but it seemed to me it would have broken down in any weather. One would like to think a...

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

Oh dear, that is a tale of woe. The more I hear about the latest Bosch motor, the less I like it. The small chain ring/rotation multiplication seems a nonsense to me. I've ridden a couple of performance versions and can't tell the difference between them and my clonky old Bosch classics. I...

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

Eddie, Tim can answer your specific questions, but I had a look at a Thron earlier this year. Good quality bicycle - roughly equal to a KTM or Haibike. Some of the Throns have a neat display which is not too big, although none are detachable, which I think is a handy feature on Bosch bikes...

    Been lurking a while

I had a look at a Giant XRe+ a couple of days ago. Nice looking bike, I can see the attraction. The owner had not done many miles, but was pleased with it. Never mind, you won't go far wrong with a KTM/Bosch. It would have been my preference. I agree rear hub drives can ride nicely, but I...

    7th London Cyclist Death Today

My sister in law, comparing herself to her husband in motoring and cycling situations, backs the 'women have poorer spatial awareness than men' theory. Men are also stronger cyclists so are more likely to accelerate away from danger at traffic lights, even if that's not their primary aim.

    Need help on new tyres

Lowering the pressures will, if anything, improve grip. I reckon you need to alter by 10psi at a time to notice any difference.

A working dongle - at last

Shimano publish max/min recommended rear/front teeth numbers for their Alfine gear hubs so as not to over torque them. Same might be true for the NuVnci, although it is famously strong.

I didn't realise the bike had a NuVinci hub gear. That may open more options because different sprocket sizes are available. This time, of course, smaller will be required. http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/nuvinci-n360-sprocket-prod30977/
