Richie Schley gets the beer on a ROTWILD

I believe it is not possible to remove the battery on a Rotwild/Brose bike. Only being able to charge on the bike would be inconvenient. Not being able to deploy a spare on longer rides makes the bike useless to me.

Which motor/kit to get? Bafang CST or Xiongda? 36V or 48V?

You would lose the three rings on the front. The ring on the BBS will be roughly the size of your middle ring. You need to establish if using the middle ring gives you a big enough range of gears. Low shouldn't be a problem, the motor will have enough grunt to assist you enough to get up all...

Slight concern over Kalkhoff / 50cycles / Focus posts

The OP says both bikes are 'with local dealers'. Seems likely he's buying in person.

Slight concern over Kalkhoff / 50cycles / Focus posts

Going back to the bike for a moment, a big attraction for me of a Focus would be the bigger 17ah battery. However, the one you are having has 11ah, so I assume that suits you. I've briefly tried the other bike on your short list, the Yamaha Hardseven. I liked it, it has the same size battery...

Which motor/kit to get? Bafang CST or Xiongda? 36V or 48V?

A crank drive kit would be simpler, for all the reasons you've outlined. However, the motor isn't your biggest problem, battery capacity is. It does depend on hills, head winds, how much grunt you put in, and if there's an 'r' in the month. But you will struggle to do 20mph+ for 30+ miles...

    50 cycles - misleading advertising

Minor problem turned into a major one. As a competent retailer, 50 Cycles should have fixed the ticking noise same day and returned the bike.

    Batteries

A few gas pipes welded together has a village smithy authenticity which some may find appealing.

    Punctures............

Conti X King worth a look - it is lightly knobbled which should give you some grip in mud. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/continental-x-king-mtb-tyre/rp-prod83008

    Punctures............

Smart Sams are a decent touring/trekking tyre. There's now a Smart Sam Plus with extra puncture protection. But the tread is too shallow for grip on mud. For that, there's no substitute for some knobbles.

    Bronx Sun Runner

I've tried one of these. Surprisingly good ride for such an old design. Pricing this one is hard, it's obviously in good condition but I don't think Sun Runners are collectors' items. It's up against budget Chinese ebikes from about £600 upwards. I would rather have this Sun Runner than a...

    Struggling to choose

In the days when Claud Butler was a proper manufacturer each bike was supplied with a note signed by the builder.

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

Abuse can never be justified, but passing pedestrians at speed on a shared path is irresponsible. Hammer along by all means, but only when there's no one about.

    Opinions on this bike

Dreadful contraption - avoid. If you must have this type of bike, the woosh version does at least have a decent frame mounted battery and the pokey BPM motor. http://www.wooshbikes.co.uk/?zephyr-b

Z4 Electric Bike Opinions & General Advice

Both the Big Bear and the Krieger can be used on throttle only. But I suspect you may find progress underwhelming, depending how much you weigh. No legal ebike is a moped, even gentle pedalling makes a big difference. Even if you are not very fit, you should be able to pedal for seven...

    Batteries

This thread - and a couple of others on batteries - coincides with one of my occasional Bosch battery endurance tests. I used eco for the first 10 miles of a 50 mile ride today, switching to tour after that, with occasional use of sport on climbs. The ride was from Sunderland along the C2C...

    Newbie: Hybrid/1000w motor, 48V Lipo 10ah pack

Agreed. A handful of bikes have a bigger front wheel than back one. I think it's gimmicky, but the thinking is the bigger front wheel's contact point helps grip into turns and when braking.

    Newbie: Hybrid/1000w motor, 48V Lipo 10ah pack

Pleased to hear you thought of it before buying. The bottom bracket and pedals will sit slightly lower, but they will be hoiked up a bit by the bigger rear wheel, so I doubt you will notice that. Just don't corner hard until you've worked out what clearance you do have on the down stroke...

    Newbie: Hybrid/1000w motor, 48V Lipo 10ah pack

The front wheel will be smaller than the back one. As it's a disc brake, it should fit. Almost all bicycles have the same size wheel back and front. The slight nose down aspect might not be a problem, but you will need to carry two spare tubes.

50 CYCLES A WARNING no quibble guarentee

Harsh but fair. Speaking of not fit for purpose, we have had quite a few posts about dodgy Kalkhoff batteries. Difficult to draw accurate statistical conclusions, but it does seem Kalkhoff batteries are less reliable than other premium brands.
