    Some security chain testing

When I lived in Edinburgh it was necessary to haul bikes up eight flights of stairs to the top floor in the tenement. Those who didn't, and chained theirs to the railings outside, or even at the bottom of the stairs, sometimes lost their bikes. Chaining them up securely worked up to a point...

    Some security chain testing

I've noticed with some alarm that on various bike forums you'll get posters waxing about their expensive security chains. Ever since I saw the first video I've been rather cynical about the claims of some chain makers (always was, actually) but to see the relative ease with which some very...

    Segway scooter boss dead

Reading a couple of reports on this, it seems that the rough pathway at the top of the cliff (a 30' drop) is likely unstable and I woudn't be surprised if it's partially overgrown, hiding a cutaway drop to the river. Whatever the actual cause, I wouldn't have been riding a Segway there and it's...

    Kalkhoff Chain Not Kalkhoff Chain

I used to buy bulk motorcycle chain from a place in Hertford, iirc. It was just a chain and transmission belt stockist, that's all it did, from bicycles to superbikes and lift trucks. They'd sell it to any length you needed. Looking at it from the chain specialist point of view, a chain's a...

Fun little video to promote cycling !

I liked the contrast of the choked village and the clear roads outside it. The cagers, even on the clear road, are still stuck in a cage.

How many people use their e-bike as their sole form of transport?

I'd love to shed the car and van, but living out in the sticks and doing the work I do, it's not really possible. Just now I'm going through the yearly ritual of getting ready for a vehicle test, tax and recently paid insurance. This time around I really resented the overall cost of it...

    The most efficient motorised transport

I'm extremely glad the day of the bloke in a shed isn't over. Agnimotors.com - Manufacturers of high efficiency D.C. motors - Projects Wow; very dirty trick played on the inventor (not unusual). Agnimotors.com - Manufacturers of high efficiency D.C. motors - Cedric Lynch - Inventor of the...

    Twattish behaviour in Stockholm

YouTube - 500w Hub Motor, 48v 10ah LiFePO4 battery, swooping through Stockholm morning rush hour traffic I estimate the rider was doing 30mph on many parts of the cycle paths. Not a problem on the main road bits, of course, but people just don't expect anyone to be doing that speed on the...

    ALDI - Winter Cycling Deals

In any given area, there is often an Aldidl store that seems to never sell out of bargain offers, so it's worth taking a tour around them. In my area there's a backwater Aldi where I'll usually find special offers from a month ago, whereas the other stores were descended upon by the gannets.

Is there merit in buying an optimate or are they a waste of £££

Unfortunately, that's another one of those useless companies that don't deliver outside of mainland UK. I hope they go bust.

    Telefunken's prototype e-bike

Certainly looks like they've found a use for old washing machine drum spiders on the wheels. I can imagine the design brief - 'a bicycle that doesn't look like everyone else's.' They've succeeded there. It looks dead strange.

Is there merit in buying an optimate or are they a waste of £££

Sod's Law strikes - until recently component-shop had some 18AH that were deep cycle - I was seriously considering them, especially as they were on offer at four for the price of three. All gone, now. In relation to those ones, I'd emailed the owner specifically asking about cycle use.

Is there merit in buying an optimate or are they a waste of £££

Optimates are rather good, but there are cheaper versions around that do just the same job. If you see one of the Lidl/Aldi chargers, grab it, as it's pretty good bang for the buck. For the SLAs, depending on your size, Home are doing deals on some.

Front lighting suggestions for 36v bike

I can tell you what I've done and plans to improve it. I bought a couple of cheapy 5W( 300Lumens) (claimed) single LED torch/handlebar lamps and mounted them in tandem. They work rather well on Eneloop AAAs. Two of these, in fact... 5w LED Bicycle Front Rear Head Light Flashlight Torch R on eBay...
