    Covered E Trike

Hey, there used to be lots of old 50s sidecars mouldering in sheds. :)

    "Helmets are required for E-Bikes"

Bloke I was at school with, when he got his first house, fell off the stepladders, cracked his head against the kitchen sink and died. He might have survived if he'd been wearing a helmet... Re: tinted windows. I love pulling up beside them, peering intently into the darkened space and...

    "Helmets are required for E-Bikes"

That's what (national) insurance is for... Aside from that, I don't want to be busted simply for nipping down the shops sans helmet, a journey that was/is perfectly [1] safe at 'normal' bicycle speeds and if I choose to do it helmetless I wouldn't be daft enough to do it full throttle. The...

    E-bike evolution and future predictions

Real men shoot plates :) Curiously, the desire for and acquisition of digital SLRs had me buying up many of the lenses of the past I'd always wanted, but at a fraction of the original cost. 'Twas but a small step from there to a minor collection of German 9x12 folders, culminating in a pre-war...

Does anyone make money out of me?

Hosting cost, data cost, it all adds up. The only other way is to go to a subscription model, which is very difficult to make work for low-demand sites. If the ads bother you, use Firefox and Adblock.

Frozen hands - need new gloves

There's an internally fitting type, which I've been using for about 20 years, but whether the makers are still around... Iirc, Warmfit was the name, made in NZ, and they had a UK agent. I'm sure they'd fit inside most bicycle handlebars. Iirc, the two heat settings are 14W and 7W. Here we go...

Frozen hands - need new gloves

If I'm out and about on the bicycle this winter (normally I don't, too much) I might think about the old despatch riders' trick of some handshields to keep the wind off. It doesn't take much of a chilly airflow to rob your fingers of heat, even through the best gloves. Of course, on the...

    Airbags for cyclists

The inflatable helmet reminds me of the serious design for an inflatable biker jacket a few years ago. Thankfully that was never taken up by anyone. I had images of hapless individuals being bounced off their bike and rattling around like balls on a pinball machine.

Do we need so many traffic lights?

I know exactly what you mean. In the past, I've done just that and in the mirror saw indignant healight flashing and could hear hooting of horns from the self-righteous. There was an interesting little wrinkle to temporary lights. If the specific lights weren't signed off by an order of the...

    Parallel Battery Connection

If choosing an MCB to act as a switch or even a breaker, make sure you get one that can cope with DC. Many of them can't and you'll find the poles welded shut just when you need it to work. Marine and narrowboat chandlers are a source. Regarding cable sizes, look at this for starters, cable...

Please don't further the unfounded rumour that is, frankly, a load of *******. UCI to check for electric bikes at Tour de France - Cycling - Yahoo! Sports Some of the comments on there are from people who know what Cancellara is like without a motor. He doesn't need one.

Absolutely no duties on imports from an EU country. That's the whole point of it. Edit - except when the Govt decides to charge extra for cars and anything else they see fit, of course.

    Some security chain testing

It's odd how people's perceptions vary. An inch-thick chain to me, means the links are made of 1" metal, but the owner probably meant it was 1" across, so not very thick at all, really. Bog chain is half an inch thick, going by that.
