    Roll over Bethoven.

Huge assumption which has every chance of being entirely incorrect. I think even the term 'European Project' is creepy and despicable. If Beethoven were alive today, and if he were pro EU, I'm afraid my CDs of his work would be heading for the dustbin.

Buying my first pedelac advice please

Trough of Bowland is a beastly locality for hills, so as has been said, you will need one of the more powerful bikes. You will also be sucking the battery, so get a big one. The Big Bear has 15ah, should do the job. The Ezee bike comes with a choice, so you will need to up spec to 15ah or...

    Disadvantages of small wheels?

It's very much in the describing, so try not to pre-judge the ride. My Brompton - on 16" wheels - is more twitchy, if we must use that word. One could say the 20" wheel bike is 'nicely direct'. Hope the Mrs has fun.

    Roll over Bethoven.

Ode to Joy is standing the test of time well. Shame to see it hijacked by anyone, least of all Euro federalists. I wonder what Beethoven would have made of it? Like many classical composers, Beethoven wrote for money, so it could be he would have been concerned only with getting the royalties.

Puncture protection is not as good from the specs. Only time will tell how that works on the trail.

    Pedego Battery Recall

Wasn't there a lass on here who bought a bright orange one? I seem to recall she was commuting into Manchester on it. As with so many purchases, we don't get to hear the long term story.

    Brompton Nano - Increase speed?

I can confirm the Nano is not a speedy device, not least because there is some resistance when you pedal above the cut off speed. The motor's nice and quiet, it accelerates briskly, and mine has been reliable, so it's not all bad. Given the Brommie's twitchy small wheel steering, I wouldn't...

    Disadvantages of small wheels?

Have you got a yacht as well now, Martin? I'm going to have to get into this ebike flogging m'larkey, it's obviously where the real dough is.

    Oxydrive kits

Yes, I have seen the info from Schwalbe, although I expect a lot of people refuse to believe it. In the same way many cyclists think a shallow tread deflects water. It doesn't, a bicycle cannot aquaplane so a slick tyre offers marginally more grip on a wet road than a treaded one, because...

    Disadvantages of small wheels?

OK, twitchy, but I was hoping not to put Allen off. He appears to be an experienced ebiker/cyclist, so should get on fine with 20" wheels. I'm rather taken with my AVE, it feels handier than a big wheel bike. Fixing the occasional puncture is also less of a problem because the smaller wheels...

    Oxydrive kits

Schwalbe say 145 psi so there can be no argument with that. I've no experience of a roadie ebike, no doubt it's a different style of riding. Can't help thinking it must be very harsh, but if you want speed it will be the way to go.

    Disadvantages of small wheels?

Looks like the Juicy has 20" balloon tyres. I have those on my AVE MH7 and they work well in nearly all conditions. They won't roll over ruts in a cycle path quite as well as a big wheel. The steering tends to be more direct because the smaller wheel doesn't produce the same gyroscopic effect...

    Oxydrive kits

Are you seriously running 146psi? I know you've converted a road bike and have narrow tyres, but that seems an awful lot. Is there a pressure range stamped on the tyre sidewall?

One season over, will it last into the next

Schwalbe Land Cruiser tyres are cheap and cheerful at about a tenner. Or you could double the bike's value by fitting a Schwalbe Marathon Plus, better puncture protection and a choice of tread.

Hill climbing - 20 inch wheels better?

Smaller wheels accelerate faster and more easily - it's one of the reasons why ordinary Bromptons work so well in stop/start traffic. I reckon that ease of acceleration translates into better hill climbing. No doubt my AVE MH7 20" Bosch bike climbs well. Better than my Rose Bosch 29er...

    Moulton conversion

Marathons are known to be brutes to fit. There's a vid somewhere of a guy using cable ties or toe straps to compress the tyre into the well of the rim. That's on a full size wheel, I expect your 20" would be harder. Having said that, I've changed the rear Marathon tyre on my Brompton a couple...

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

Tidy loop you've worked out there, Martin. Plenty long enough in this weather. Battery range about as to be expected, some of those softer trails will have sucked the power. I expect you'd get round mostly in tour setting in bone dry conditions.

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

Army bomb disposal blew up a bomb on a beach near a friend's house. As luck wouldn't have it, he was taking an afternoon snooze on the bed at the time. The blast blew the pendant light off the ceiling. No other damage to his house, but a couple of neighbours lost panes of glass in their...

    Oxydrive kits

Slime experience appears to vary, although it seems to work better on large volume tyres, such as yours. A snake tube is another option, although if the existing tube is a traditional one, you will need to carry a craft knife to slit it to remove it. Smart Sam tyres are quite light, there is...

A working dongle - at last

Depends what you mean by 'kill'. The Bosch system is always on, so you are always using the battery, whatever speed you are doing. Going fast uses lots more juice - that's an ebike truism. The battery management system is designed to prevent harm to the battery. It's not bypassed by the...
