Bosch ActiveLine panel doesn't register new battery charge

The unit is also known to be prone to poor contacts caused by flexing in the mount. Might be worth 'relaxing' the mount by loosening the handlebar mounting screws and then trying it.

    Cube town hybrid suitable?

You've answered your own question. Staiger is not well-known in the UK, but there are a lot of other good quality German ebike brands in a similar position. There's a lot to be said for local dealer support, so as I said at the start of this post....

Best under £1000 bikes for 14 mile roundtrip hilly mon-fri commute

You could do a lot worse than a Big Bear. The motor is more powerful than many others, and the large capacity battery will enable you to take full advantage. The Halfords bikes are Ebco, nice quality for the money, slightly better built than woosh, judging by the ones I've seen. Smaller...

Bosch Nyon Issues?. New substantial update: Jan 2015

Wow, company sets out to make a profit shock. I know one or two posters on here just cannot bear the idea of a premium product, but let's at least try to examine the system rationally. The Bosch motor provides a seamless 'set and forget' ebiking experience, the quality of which is only further...

    Computer Woes

Macs do appear to suffer a lot less from this sort of thing. My MacBook Pro is getting on for five years old and has never given me any bother. I don't use a lot of programmes, but still much prefer Mac over Windows, even for simple surfing and a few emails. The price premium has narrowed a...

Can anyone help me on what bike to buy....

A range of 80+ miles is not going to be easy with one battery. Some of the Kalkhoffs have 17ah batteries, which might scrape 80 miles with a lot of pedalling from you. All the Bosch motored bikes have 11ah batteries, so you would need a spare, which adds about £500 to the bill. The Bosch...

Small Bike with Big Ideas - Kudos Tempo

Inside leg is an important measure. Yours is relatively long, so you should also fit a 26" or, at a push, a 700c step through. Plenty of happy Kudos owners on here, so if you like the bike there's every chance you will be pleased with it.

    Frame size

There's often lots of handlebar adjustment on step through bikes. Get the seat height correct, and the rest should fall into place. Dutch style step throughs, which are very laid back, are usually ridden with the handlebars a few inches above the saddle, so don't worrry if the 'bars look high.

What is an unbuilt bike all about?

Too many tales of bikes being presented to customers in a poor condition for this to be in any way excusable. Pity, because they have plenty of decent bikes which riders never get the pleasure they should from because of dreadful set-up. I understand the 'Bike Hut' concept is being updated...

    It could be a record

I might be inclined to enter if I knew how to use the prize.

    Never give up.

The simplest - and cheapest - dongle is the Badass cordless one. You clip it over the the speed sensor and it works - great. I have one. The latest version has a bigger battery, which is why I reckon clearance might be tight on an MH7. The other downside is it divides the speedo readout into...

What is an unbuilt bike all about?

Halfords offer most of their bikes built or 'unbuilt' in a box. Sad indictment of some of the staff whose cack handedness has given the company such a bad reputation. They've earned it, though. Only the other day I saw a mountain bike with the stem the wrong way up. Dreadful, basic error...

    Never give up.

I have an MH7 - excellent bike. The large diameter seat post is part of the design, but doesn't offer a lot in terms of comfort. Worth tinkering with the tyre pressures, there's plenty of suspension to be had in those Big Apple balloons. I always recommend pressure at the higher end for...

    Seeking clarity on the law

Col, I found your last post less than clear. Having said that, I don't think you would recognise ironic humour if it smacked you in the face. The phrase 'surely not' in my reply was a clue. Makes no never mind, the motor is more than 200W so it's illegal. One thing we will agree on, no one...

    Seeking clarity on the law

So are you now saying there's a risk of being prosecuted for riding a KTM bike? Surely not. You keep on about this legal advice you've had, and if you want to follow it to the letter, fine, but don't expect everyone else to. Lawyers are notoriously cautious in giving advice and brilliant at...

    Seeking clarity on the law

Mmm, slight difference of opinion in the last two posts. The bloke whose living depends on flogging KTMs reckons they are legal. The bloke who is independent and reckoned to know more than most folk on here about ebikes reckons they are not. Now, I wonder whose opinion is most trustworthy...

Convert a Kona Cinder Cone to an electric bike; please help!

You mention using the bike as a derny for your training. A derny is something that is surprisingly difficult to achieve from an ebike. Trundling along at 20mph with little pedal input will require a powerful motor and, if you want to do so for more than a few miles, an enormous battery...

    Seeking clarity on the law

So all those posters who were bleating about my dongle in a recent thread are breaking the same rules themselves. Shocking. And what of Col and his nice, shiny KTMs - surely they can't be illegal? Reminds me of one of Fletcher's lines in Porridge: "At least there's a certain amount of honesty...

    G'day

Maybe you've worked it out, but I don't think a converted Trek will be significantly lighter than your Kalkhoff.

    Fast Legal Bike

This project illustrates what a long way fully electric vehicles have yet to develop before they are usable. Thirty mph, 30 mile range - I had a Raleigh moped built in the early 60s which would do that. Well maybe 25mph, and it wasn't so clever in the very wet because the fanbelt drive would...
