    Extend your battery

I can't recall which bike and battery you have, but I can't see the point of messing around turning the battery on and off during a ride. One of the benefits of a quality pedelec system is set and forget. On my Bosch bike, I set the assistance to tour before setting off, and routinely don't...

New member looking for advice on trikes

A customer of my local bike shop has a converted trike. It's a bit of a monster, two lead acid batteries and what looks like a car starter motor driving a secondary chain. The owner likes and uses it, which is all that matters. He told me he goes to Holland with it on the ferry two or three...

Decent mountain bike frame for front hub motor.

It's not all about components, the Cannondale scores on frame quality. It has their SAVE anti vibration construction. Could be a marketing gimmick, but I tried one and found it was remarkably smooth and free of vibration, compared to other ally framed bikes which I find harsh and 'zingy'.

    Full Suspension converted mountain bike

This Thule rack will fit on chain stays or on the front forks: http://www.thule.com/en/gb/products/luggage-and-bags/bike-bags-and-racks/racks/thule-pack-n-pedal-sport-rack-_-pp_100015 EDIT: I see flecc included it in his list when he added to his post above.

New member looking for advice on trikes

Forum member twinkle builds trikes and e-trikes and generally knows a fair bit about them. She may see your thread, or you could send her a message via the forum. One of her recent threads: http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/building-a-20-wheel-tadpole-e-trike-from-scratch.17880/

    Full Suspension converted mountain bike

The props of the luggage rack are lashed to the seat stays with hose clips. The stays move, so the seat post fixing part of the rack is simply resting on the seat post clamp, in the hope it will move forwards and backwards with the suspension. In no way is that anything other than a nasty...

    Full Suspension converted mountain bike

I'm guessing you don't have a photo of the front, which would be more helpful. Dunlop bikes, sadly, are cheap and nasty. The conversion looks to be a lash up. All in all, a dreadful contraption which you should avoid.

    Best bike for hills?

It's natural to focus on the bike first, but your bigger consideration should be the battery - or batteries. Using the power for a 'decent mileage' in the Western Isles will slurp battery capacity very quickly. Can you put a rough figure on the mileage?

Upgrading from a non-electric mountain bike, picked 2 possible ones

With apologies for attempting to answer the OP. Nothing wrong with either bike. They will ride a bit differently as hub and crank bikes always do. I prefer crank drives, but it's no more than a preference, some riders prefer hubs, and others are not bothered so long as it pulls a bit. A test...

    Which is the best Bosch/Yamaha/Shimano

If you thought the Scott/Bosch bike climbed well that indicates you are capable of putting in some effort, because the Bosch motor is not the strongest. Thus a dongled Bosch bike may give you what you seek - 20mph and good climbing. You already know it climbs well, and translating some of the...

    Which is the best Bosch/Yamaha/Shimano

I couldn't tell you exactly how it works, but it fools the Bosch electronics into thinking the bike is doing one third of the speed it really is. Thus the motor will not cut off until a real speed of 45mph is reached. As far as I know, the wired dongles work the same way. Using either dongle...

    Which is the best Bosch/Yamaha/Shimano

The Badass clip on dongle does the same job as a wired in one and is easier to fit and usually a bit cheaper. I know it works on Bosch bikes, I have one. Badass say it also works on Steps and Yamaha. No reasons to disbelieve them. https://www.badassebikes.com/en/

    Am I a tart?

When the Japanese Fuji Bank had a presence in London in the 1980s they had FUJ 1 on a big, black Merc. For reasons I will not bore you with, I was once in the company of one of their executives and the subject of the plate came up. "We got the plate for a very good price," said the Japanese...

Cube reaction hybrid pro29, first impressions

Gotcha. I've never been entirely sure about 9/10 speed compatibility. I wonder how badly or otherwise it would work if you mounted an extender on your current set-up.

Cube reaction hybrid pro29, first impressions

A range extender cog is what you n They are. A range extender cog replaces the smallest cog, so you lose that. But they are aimed at those wanting to run 1X10 set ups, which is what your bike has. The cog even comes in a pretty colours...

    Researching for leccie bike

Mine was only a short ride, so I didn't get to sort out techniques. Strange device, not sure what I made of it. The electronic shifting version might ride well, but it's yet more weight and complication.

    Bosch Nyon tuning dongle

Aye, when I'm on one of my Bosch bikes the only thing that sometimes stops and overheats is me.

I found the NuVinci stiff to change as well. I might have got used to it, or it might have continued to irritate me. Probably the latter.

    Researching for leccie bike

Could be due to the twin cables, which none of the cheaper hubs have.

    Researching for leccie bike

My Alfine gear hub is more sensitive to cable tension than my derailleur bikes, so does need a little more fettling. The days when cables stretched significantly in use appear to be over, although I try to remember to leave my bikes in higher gears so the cable is left under low tension.
