    Keeping up with a roadie

Thereby hangs a tale. It was shut when we arrived on a Tuesday lunchtime, so I only saw the unimpressive outside of it. Turned out that was just as well, had we stopped there - or anywhere else - for lunch, I doubt we would have made Rhyl, let alone Llandudno.

    Keeping up with a roadie

This is pretty much it, although the roadie was tinkering with the route for a ride he's organising later this month. He told me the bit from Manchester to Altrincham is from a mate who commutes it, so it's been well-refined over the years. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6878088

I get the impression you fancy a cross bar bike. The Bear cross bar is listed on the website as suitable for riders of 5ft 8" and above. Does two inches matter in this case? Possibly not, but you could spec the ordinary seat post which should go down lower than the suspension one...

    Keeping up with a roadie

Looking at the map again, the bit through Mostyn to Talacre is on the A548. The roadie reckoned the only alternative is to cut inland a few miles, but that's very hilly. The A548 is a fast, mostly two-lane road which many cyclists would want to avoid. There are bits of cycle path, but not...

    Keeping up with a roadie

Yes, we trundled out from Connah's Quay beside the Dee estuary and turned left at Talacre before getting our feet wet. One of the problems - for me - of pushing hard was I didn't get the chance to take much in. Looks like we must have gone through Mostyn, although I don't recall it. We were...

    Keeping up with a roadie

I - perhaps unwisely - attempted a 100 mile ride with a roadie. We started from Manchester Piccadilly station at 8.45am with the intention of reaching Llandudno in North Wales for a train back at 5.30pm. Because of the travelling, I used my MH7, which is a 20" wheel dongle free Bosch bike. I...

    Cyclotricity Revolver review

I believe the latest Bafang displays pass whatever the international standard for waterproofing gadgets is - IP something or other. Wiring will in any event be dependent on individual installation. My Bosch bikes have been used in the rain and rained on, although not a lot in either case...

The Rapide has a 51cm - 20" - frame, riding on 700c tyres. I am sure it will be too big for you.

A cheap dedicated pedal spanner is probably your best bet, in case the combination is too thick. You will note the pedal spanners are quite long - lots of leverage. That's an indication that you do need to do up the pedals quite tight. However, the left hand thread is a safety device. Any...

The Pro Connect 9 has derailleur gears, so quick release, so no worries there. Bear in mind when fitting the pedals, the one under your left leg has a left hand thread - it does up anti-clockwise as you look from the side of the bike. The threads are also relatively fine, so it's easy to start...

Dave, You forgot to say the weights quoted by Kudos are accurate. The Cyclezee bike might be a bit heavier than a comparable Kudos, not least because of the two-legged centre stand.

If you are having hub gears, you will need a proper 15mm combination spanner to remove the back wheel to fix a puncture. An old-style bike spanner with several open ends will not give the leverage required for the job - the hub axle nuts need to be relatively tight. A few months ago, I came...

    Best bike for hills?

You say you want to do some pedalling - all the bikes will allow you to do that. Normal use would be to bowl along on the flat using a lower assistance level, then turn it up/change gear/deploy the throttle when you reach a hill. Give John at Oxygen a ring, he will sort you out one way or...

    gates belt drive

Happily, I've always managed to avoid mega miles. Driving has become less pleasurable to me as traffic densities have increased. Of course, it's not my car that contributes to the jams, it's all those other selfish buggers who choose to be on the roads at the same time as me.

Has any other member got a Kalkhoff Sahel i360 Harmony ?

Good news, Mike. You paid good money for a premium product, so the experience you are now having should have been the one you had from day one. Looks like an electronic set-up problem has been sorted. I agree with flecc, there's no reason now why the bike should not continue to perform correctly.

Last 12 years. Lots of different cars before that. Never really had a shed. Even my second hand Lada Samara did its job for the 12 months I had it.

Two Focuses and, currently, a Vauxhall Meriva, have given me about 150,000 miles of reliable motoring. So far, touch wood, etc.

The Volt has a weaker motor, and a seat post battery, which makes for a long and unwieldy bike, so I think you should discount that. The Kudos Rapide has 700c - big - wheels and a near level cross bar. It will stand fairly high, depending on your height it may be hard for you to get, er, your...

Dave, I know you have bikes to sell, but 10ah is too close a call for someone with one lung wanting to do around 20 miles in the Western Isles. Especially as 'not charging every night' is also desirable. Michelle needs a 15ah or bigger battery.

    Best bike for hills?

Any ebike is a dead loss to pedal without power, 20kg+ and resistance from the motor - whatever the makers says - sees to that. You will find you will be using the motor all the time, just more up hills and into a headwind. A Cycleezee bike with a 15ah battery should easily do around 20 miles...
