    New Gtech ebike

the Sram automatix is an interesting one. Very good on flat roads, even without power, but useless on steep hills. I had to set the BBS01 kit to highest assist level to achieve the design objective which is 'this bike will flatten hills with the greatest economy but with no grease, no wire, no...

    Bimoz drive system

it's the low torque, yield at low revs - maybe the figures are so bad that they don't want to publish them. A few years back, one guy came up with a direct drive motor built into the pedals. It didn't get anywhere. I wish more people spend their energy on designing better, lighter gearboxes...

Confused about the new law on throttles - clarification please

Let's say we now can bring our bikes with throttle to a test centre for type approvals. What specific tests can they actually do to the throttle and bikes besides those in EN15194 that the bikes have already passed? There are no prescribed dimensions, location, weight, material, working voltage...

Confused about the new law on throttles - clarification please

No, you don't. But to justify the cost of going through type approval, the bike in question needs to sell in large volume. In view of the small market in the UK (between 25,000 and 35,000 a year) and only about 35% of them have a full throttle at present, there are no more than 20 models with...

Confused about the new law on throttles - clarification please

it's not as ridiculous as it sounds. The DfT agree that the full throttle is useful for the elderly and the partially abled persons, so they want the suppliers to be able to offer it but it will take time to organize testing facilities for a very small number of bikes and an even smaller number...

Confused about the new law on throttles - clarification please

the new law took effect on 1/1/2016 but suppliers have 2 years (up to 1/1/2018) to sell off their stock. It follows that bikes with full throttle are still available for 1 year and 9 months. Bikes bought before 1/1/2018 can keep the throttle (if fitted) forever. You cannot retrofit a throttle to...

you need to contact Andy at woosh for the tool. Go to their website and leave a message for Andy.

that motor is very easy to replace. But I think it's probably cheaper to take it out and send it back to woosh for repair instead of buying a new one.

    Bimoz drive system

it's mad. Low speed direct drive? who are they kidding?

    New Gtech ebike

I am half way through trialling a new bike in the spirit of the Gtech. The bike has pedal assist only but it has a crank drive and an SRAM automatix. It weighs 17kgs at the moment. I am trying to shed 2kg from it and getting rid of the LCD. It's nowhere near as flexible as with an 8-speed...

    Mechanical doping ???

you can do that easily enough but a gearbox with a reduction ratio 250,000/100 for e-bikes is a bit more difficult to make.

    Mechanical doping ???

If the doped bike is found within the perimeter of her area, she, being the guarantor of anything in her area, is liable to ban and fine. Fine applies also to her team. Like Sharapova, I don't think she ever disputed the facts. Ban and fine are inevitable if she chooses to remain a member of UCI...

    Mechanical doping ???

It's not as if she has a chance to avoid ban and fine. If she had gone to UCI today to defend her case, the best she could hope for would be a smallish fine (about £50,000) and a short ban (a year) and moderate charge from her lawyer. Her sponsors have already run away, she and her family aren't...

    Mechanical doping ???

correct me if I am wrong, the doped bike belongs to the team. Surely the team must know who rode it where and when. Femke Van den Driessche was not caught red-handed (with the doped bike underneath her), although there are rumours that she had used the doped bike in a previous competition...

    Mechanical doping ???

the vivax demo bike has the motor in the seat tube and battery in a saddle bag, I suppose that's the easiest way to build the bike.

    Mechanical doping ???

As I am looking into building a lighter, stealthier 'Gtech', I am thinking of building the battery pack either into a lockable saddle or handlebars. Only 20 x 18650 cells are needed for 7AH. My guess for the Vivax, they'd use only 7 cells.

    Mechanical doping ???

i think if one suspects that the bike is motorized then it should be easy to find the tell tale signs like drag, weight, noise and wires but it should be possible to hide the motor in the downtube and the battery in the chain stays and the on/off button somewhere on or inside the handlebars or...

need some help on BMS kit

some models have a very clever hall sensor that work with either side of the PAS disc but won't work on the left side of the BB. I know so because I have one of them. I fitted it on a triple ring with a lot of fiddling. When the PAS disc fell off, I replaced it with bmsbattery left side BB...

Electric Bike Conversions FWD 250W/Ridgeback Hybrid

the throttle overrides the PAS setting, you can get 100% power immediately while on level 5 PAS, you are near 100% but not quite.
