Are lightweight, short range e-bikes the answer

Light weight is nice, range is crucial.

    Kalkhoff Endeavor problems

A chain guide mounted on the chainstay may keep the chain in order. Here's a diy version: The ready made ones are surprisingly dear, but a good mountain bike shop may have some ideas - it's really a MTB piece of kit. You could try shortening the chain - assuming you have a derailleur...

Dalby Forest near Pickering, north Yorkshire, is just about within range. Several easy cycling trails, visitor centre and other bits and pieces. Let me know if you decide to have a run at it and I may join you for a ride. http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/infd-8yzdgq

2014/2015 KTM Macina Lycan gps +

One battery wouldn't be a lot of good to me - too many of my rides need more than that. Seems to me ebike motors are fairly well sorted, my Bosch bikes have enough poke for my needs. Battery life is much more of a limiting factor than motor power.

    Anyone good with cars?

Good, sturdy cars those 2000-ish Micras. Simple, as you say, so the garage really ought to be able to do a good job on it. Don't let them try to talk you into scrapping it unless a decent sum of money changes hands. A Micra of that age is always worth something.

There really are not that many

I always had Schwalbe down as making lots of tyres because I see them on a lot of new bikes. Perhaps I'm only looking at £2K+ dream machines.

    Taichung Bike Week

The copyright in the article is vested in Bicycle Retailer, it is nothing to do with the maker of the motor. For this purpose, Bicycle Retailer couldn't give a stuff about the motor, but they might care about their intellectual property. A link to their site is fine, and as Trex says, excerpts...

There really are not that many

Twenty plus tyres against one or two is poor choice. Unless you can demonstrate Schwalbe is unrepresentative and the other makers are producing dozens of 27.5" in different widths and tread types. Sure, things may improve, and the lack of choice will be unimportant to a lot of riders. But for...

    How dangerous is cycling?

The collapse of the banking system is undesirable in many ways. People would lose their savings, business would grind to a halt, to name but two nasty consequences. Regrettably, we could not allow the bankers to take responsibility for their actions. Baling them out was a side effect - handy...

There really are not that many

I refer to 27.5" tyres. My comment a couple of weeks ago about a mate who was struggling for choice in this size was countered by Eddie and ebike Martin. Not so, I was told, there are plenty. A play with Schwalbe's tyre finder suggests otherwise. There are more than 20 tyres at 26"X2.0...

Changes to Regulations - Speed pedelecs / dongles / throttles

Couple of good points there which it takes someone in the trade to think through. Although if a seller is going to ignore the rules so blatantly, it doesn't really matter how those rules are framed.

Compact, short range, quality commuter bike?

The Nano is well thought out, the controller, battery, and motor are all at the front, so no worries with folding cables. The other conversion you could consider is the Sparticle. The battery is on the seat tube, which is not so neat as the Nano, but a folded Sparticle will be easier to lump...
