Compact, short range, quality commuter bike?

A Gallego would be cheaper, although the OP mentions being prepared to 'pay for quality and the best solution', There have been a few threads on here recently about faults on Woosh bikes. Mostly niggly stuff, but I get the impression the OP would rather pay a few quid more to avoid such...

    Up hill struggle

True, although if you were tackling something like Hardknott, changing part way up on any bike - powered or not - would not be a good idea. Defo a case for getting into first gear as soon as the climb ramps up and staying there.

    Up hill struggle

Hardknott Pass in the Lake District is about as steep as it gets in the UK at about 30 per cent. Wiki, so it must be right, reckons the steepest is a toss up between Hardknott and Rosedale in Yorkshire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardknott_Pass...

    Best ebike on hills

What Trex says. He's mentioned a crank drive Woosh, hub drive bikes from Cyclezee are also reckoned to be strong climbers. If you are seriously thinking about buying an ebike, think a bit more about what you need. I have two Bosch crank drive bikes, they are reckoned to be good, but not...

Compact, short range, quality commuter bike?

The OP's asking about test rides, so that's a decent offer. Nowhere to test a Brompton Nano in west London as far as I know. The 16" wheels are not ideal for comfort, but five miles each way shouldn't be a problem. The Brommie really is made for London commuting, there is nothing so agile or...

Compact, short range, quality commuter bike?

The Wisper meets your spec and the company enjoys a good name on here for making reliable bikes and providing good customer service. One snag is that none of the 20" folders are very compact when folded. The package is heavy, 22kg or so, and unwieldy with bits sticking out all over the place...

Bosch Intuvia HMi headset thing.. Shutting down

If it's dead flat it might need to be on charge for some time before it shows signs of waking up. I expect you have left it on charge for a while, but just in case....

Nothing so sinister. The lives of two families were, if not ruined, badly effected by what started as no more than an instance of 'beer in, brains out'. Simple moral of the tale is have a good time by all means, but know your limits. Back on topic, I agree with Tin Kitten about the general...

How many people are using there e-bike off-road?

There's a downhill technique to keep brake temperatures down. Let the bike go as fast as you dare, then using both brakes haul it back to a fair bit slower than you want, and repeat. Much better than 'riding' the brakes, which builds up more heat. Obviously, the technique needs to be applied...

It's pretty much the only game in town for anyone wanting customer feedback on complete ebikes. Endless Sphere is more about kits, and the other mainstream cycling forums I've seen still have a hostile and patronising attitude to ebikers. Ebiking is a tiny minority part of a minority interest...

Agreed. The private message system has its place, but I've always thought that to be for the transmission of information one might want reasonably want to keep private - email address, phone number, stuff like that.

Blew it, Either say what you want to say, or shut the ---- up. All this wink-wink 'I know something you don't' is what really puts people off forums.

There is room for all types of ebike users on Pedelecs. But if self-builders gravitate elsewhere, that's up to them. KTM are only here for profit, if they are upping their advertising spend on here, it shows there's life in the old place yet.

    The EU, In or Out.

No doubt in my mind that if the question: "In or out?" was asked of the electorate today, the answer would be a resounding 'out'. Thus we don't get asked because there are too many passengers in positions of influence on the EU gravy train who don't want to get off. When we do get asked, it...

Presta or Schrader valves on KTM

In the last 40 or so years, presta was fitted on 'racing' bikes. They had narrow tyres/wheels, so drilling a slightly smaller hole in the rim didn't compromise the strength as much as a larger Schrader one. Those racing bikes ran higher pressure, so presta became known as a high-pressure...
