    Up hill struggle

no, top speed is proportional to the cube root of motor power. Changing the settings on the LCD only messes up the display and odometer.

    Taichung Bike Week

the concept is great though. Compared to the delayed Copenhagen wheel project, this one has all the pluses: triple chainrings, Isis cranks, mobile phone link, no wiring, and none of the minuses: in-wheel battery, low torque DD motor, single speed. And the 1.5kg weight! wow! I am willing to bet...

    Speed Pedelecs

Bosch 350W nominal, 500W max, about the same power as the BPM.

    Freego hawk speed limit

@kuksoolchris: from the top of a hill, turn on the electrics and throttle up. If the bike is limited, the power to the motor will be cut when you reach 16mph. If it doesn't then the bike does not have speed limiter.

Compact, short range, quality commuter bike?

@ RobF: re. niggling problems: Woosh are upgrading the cranks in their CD bikes to Neco brands. The Zephyr-B has Neco 52T crankset and VP pedals. the Gallego is has VP crankset and pedals. @mnemonix: the Gallego has Shimano Nexus-3 hub gear and Shimano Nexus Inter-3 rollerbrakes at the rear...

Compact, short range, quality commuter bike?

cwah rode two of his Bromptons to death. it depends of course on how well you look after your bike. The OP wants to do 10 miles a day, 3,000 miles a year. A new Brompton costs about £750, a year later with 3,000 miles under its tyres, its resale value would be around £250. The conversion kit...

Changes to Regulations - Speed pedelecs / dongles / throttles

@ James: I am interested in trying one but not buying one. I remember KD was looking into e-mopeds a few months back and I posted the above in the thread about whether dongles make your bike illegal. I did not take long to find out that e-mopeds sell fairly well in Malta. With deregulation, if...

Changes to Regulations - Speed pedelecs / dongles / throttles

I was looking into e-mopeds. This one folds, has 48V 28AH silicon gel battery, weighs 45kgs, top speed about 35mph, charges up in 2 hours, has 2-speed automatic gearbox, hydraulic brakes, can climb stairs (no need to wait for the lift!) and costs about $1,000 FOB with an EC type approval...

    Up hill struggle

CD kit: just about enough power without, albeit very slowly, 5mph - I think you still need a little bit of pedalling, it's more confortable when climbing steep hills. BPM kit: a bit under power, needs hard pedalling but easy peasy for the rest of the trip.

    Best ebike on hills

you need power to climb hills. A big fat motor, big battery and preferably crank drive for very steep hills. From ready built bikes: woosh Krieger http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?krieger

    Up hill struggle

No. Those 1000W kits use direct drive motors, excellent for high speed but useless for hill climbing. You'd need a CD kit, BBS02 500W or BBS02 750W. Woosh have BBS02 36V 25A 500W kit - the last time I asked, it costs £359.

    Up hill struggle

no, it can't go up 40% (1 in 2.5) gradient (100m over 250m). No bike can. Going up 250ft over 1/5 mile (75m over 320m or 23.6 percent), the BPM can just about do it with pedalling though. The Woosh Krieger might do it without pedalling. It has the same power as the BPM but you can go up slowly...

Changes to Regulations - Speed pedelecs / dongles / throttles

I looked up insurance and registration for L1e e-mopeds the other day when posting earlier about the folding e-moped. Apparently, they can register it for you, £70 including number plate, so road ready. I assume their bike has EC type approval as L1e. Zippe mention £170 per annum for fully comp...

Compact, short range, quality commuter bike?

The resale value of the Brompton is good but not if it's electrified. purpose built e-folders are very much better than the conversions. Also, they are usually cheaper to buy. However, most of the 20" e-folders cannot be easily wheeled about in corridors or hauled up and down stairs, their...

    Very lightweight e-bikes

woosh use normally Samsung SDI cells, so price of those 3400mAH cells must have come down a fair bit. The BPM pulls very well, the 52T chainring is also a good touch.

    Very lightweight e-bikes

that battery is relatively small, about the size and thickness of a PC keyboard and felt incredibly light when I took it in my hands. I reckon it has 10S3P arrangement. The weight comes from the BPM motor, the rest of the bike is more or less standard parts.

if d8veh was an official trader, there would be a lot more bikes sold! @ Tillson: I did not know there is an 'in crowd' on the forum. Who is in it then?

    Hello, i'm a new eBiker

Rain water may be a problem but then, the chances that you need to ride in pouring rain with external battery on should not be high. You don't need another charger if you get a second battery with the same DC charging socket. Whichever battery you buy, you need to make a DC lead with right angle...

Changes to Regulations - Speed pedelecs / dongles / throttles

they'll adopt EN15194 to hamonize with Europe, make it dead easy to register s-pedelecs as L1e as long as they are given EC type approval certificates. BTW, there is no reason to outlaw the throttle.
