    Invisible Bike

Where I live now there are lots of narrow lanes with blind bends and I always give a good toot as I approach. The horn is meant to be solely for warning other traffic. But so many drivers think it's for saying goodbye to their friends, or expressing annoyance with another road user. But it's...

    Invisible Bike

Sorry but it isn't hindsight at all. When I watched it I knew he was going to drive out in front of you. It flashed alarms as the car turned across him and obscured his view. Just as situations like that do when I'm driving or riding. Over fifty years of driving cars and trucks, riding...

    Invisible Bike

That was a dangerous situation from the moment the car turned into the road in front of the hatchback emerging. If that had been me, seeing the red car was unsighted I would have expected him to very possibly drive out and braked in anticipation. In my car I would have slowed and sounded my...

    Kalkhoff

Depending where you live maybe an Irish dealer would be better. Lot closer than Germany if you want to take advantage of the Euro fall.

    Kalkhoff

The motors are very reliable and the bikes are built like brick shithouses. There have been a few on here including me who have had battery problems lately...

    Kalkhoff

The warranty will be with the dealer you buy it from in Germany and no one in the UK will touch it unless you pay them. I was interested in buying a Kalkhoff from Germany a little while ago and emailed Derby Cycles to ask them the position and that's what they told me. Pretty stupid when people...

    Ebike theory

Very good explanation of the various factors involved. Thanks for linking to it.

Wondering if an e-bike is for me...

The Panasonic tapered right down before 15 mph so not much assist after that. But the impulse goes on to over 17 mph before it stops so that makes a difference to the average achieved on flattish roads. It accelerates faster from standstill too. If the Panasonic had a smaller back sprocket...

Another month would probably make all the difference when the smell of spring is in the air.

Discounts on Bikes at the Cycle Show

Villers 197 motor? My first bike was a 1948 Ambassador 197 with girder forks and a rigid back end. The flywheel was only covered with a tin can so there was't much to stop it if it got loose.

Wondering if an e-bike is for me...

Depends on the bike and the quality of its cycle parts. Unlike the cheaper Chinese ones the Kalkhoff has good parts and will cycle well past the cut out. If you don't have a good 80psi in the tyres, assuming they're rated for that it won't pedal so well. It depends which model you have though. A...

Wondering if an e-bike is for me...

Yes so does mine. They use the ten percent leeway to cut out at 17.3 mph. You can still pedal past that on the flat though, and when it's rolling it's not so different from a hybrid or even a road bike if the tyres are pumped up to a good pressure.

Bike Europe draws attention to illegal tuning kits

The only difference is in the helmet requirement and parking in pedal cycle spots then? S pedelecs need insurance in Germany but no licence I think. They would be allowed to park with bikes but of course can't use cycle paths which normal pedelecs can. The helmet is not a complete deal breaker...

Bike Europe draws attention to illegal tuning kits

Okay I get all that. But again in practise it seems to be as near an S pedelec as makes no difference. Is this a back door way of having S pedelecs?

Bike Europe draws attention to illegal tuning kits

I know, that's what I find confusing about this bike. If it's legal what is it? In practise it seems to be very similar to an S pedelec.

Bike Europe draws attention to illegal tuning kits

So is the bike a legal e moped then, needing helmet and insurance, and some form of registration even if it's free of road tax? I'm a bit confused as to how it differs in practise from an S pedelec in that case. Since we are always being told we will never get them here.

Bike Europe draws attention to illegal tuning kits

Lot of trade people, and others who have been involved with cycling organisations lobbying government over e bike law post here. So most of them know what they're talking about in this area. If you had done a quick search you would see that this topic has been aired here over and over again...

    Kudos Tornado, like new condition

Seemed pretty cheap to me too. I can't find flecc's S/H price calculator. I thought it was going to be a sticky on the classified section. I think it might come out at a bit more than this though. Perhaps waiting a couple of months would have paid dividends? I may be wrong but I don't think the...
