    my first electric bike????

Try your local bicycle shop. I'm sure they'll help and will probably not even want payment. Particularly of you buy some small item from them. You may want a relationship with one to sort out general bike maintenance if you don't do your own.

Bike Europe draws attention to illegal tuning kits

I suspect it's because British commuters travel further in general than mainland European ones, and public transport costs are higher. It's hard to park anywhere now in British cities too unless it's provided by the employer.

Bike Europe draws attention to illegal tuning kits

It depends on the terrain and the bike. On a fairly hilly commute a strong cyclist should be faster on an e bike than on an unassisted one. If the bike is a good one that pedals well past the cut out it will be even faster. Since a strong cyclist can then go almost as fast on the flat once it's...

My joke was a bit too subtle maybe?

    Caraok electric one wheel bicycle

Bit like the British and French bicycle regiments of the Great War. Or the famous Italian running regiment.... I didn't make that up BTW.

Bike Europe draws attention to illegal tuning kits

It's only some of the Chinese bikes where you can do that. With the German bikes you can't. The point of buying an e bike when you don't have mobility issues for me is that my age and lots of steep hills don't mix that well. There are other reasons for other people too which may not apply to...

Wondering if an e-bike is for me...

Well, if he's happy to be illegal why not buy a Kalkhoff S pedelec? That would do the job all right and is in the right price range.

Bike Europe draws attention to illegal tuning kits

Isn't it because the Bosch motors have been tuned most? I think there are dongles available for Kalkhoffs and others too but I don't think the take up has been anything like as high. I see Kalkhoffs as an ebike equivalent of a Merc, and KTMs and such as BMWs. I've had couple of Mercs but I've...

It's a unicycle isn't it? Not sure it needs pedals to be defined as that.

    More EU Harmonisation

The Torygraph being an anti EU paper only writes of British people being affected as though it was aimed at us here. It's what the Europhobes always do. But in fact it's a sensible tidying up of the law, and now people from the EU who flout speed limits and other laws in countries of the EU...

possible to hack controller to allow >15 mph speeds?

Lots of threads on this if you search the forum. Try searching 'soldering the shunt' maybe.

    Wheel Quick Release Levers

If you have them really tight you could damage the drop outs if they are alloy. I like to have them tight enough to stay on but able to close without really pressing hard. Difficult to explain with something like that because you can't torque it. A reasonable thumb or finger pressure for a human...

    S Pedelecs and hills

I've never ridden the S pedalec so can't help there. I have ridden the Pro Connect 9 and it goes uphill like a train. Faster than my 2013 Impulse 1 with Sport software profile for the same effort, and that is pretty good on steep hills. People who have ridden both say the S pedelec is not...

UK to Harmonise Electric Bike Law with Europe?

You only qualify if you aren't up to playing a harmonium. Then you get an electrically powered throttle controlled billows.

Difference between the UK and Switzerland,

Don't think they make the motors though? China has become the new workshop of the world so it would be hard to make anything without Chinese components. The computer I'm using is made in China for instance but it's an Apple and so made to high standards and well designed. Most of the locally...

    RANGE

But what about the bike? Not all are the same and some are lighter, or have better bearings and HP tyres, smaller frontal area, lower handlebar positions etc.

Maybe a thread for 5kw+ conversions?

As I said it's a clarification for the unwary who might be mislead by your post and no more than that. It's not" here we go" so don't make it so.

Maybe a thread for 5kw+ conversions?

Not a legal hijack just a clarification for the unwary. It's illegal to use them off road too unless it's private land with no public access.

UK to Harmonise Electric Bike Law with Europe?

This thread is becoming a bit like all those illegal bike ones where someone points out the law and a lot of people howl at him as if he was responsible for it. it is what it is and it doesn't look as though it can be changed, so there really is no use kicking against the pricks.
