    Mini Experiment, electric Vs manual

Seems like an e bike will get you there quicker and less tired. Even if the route is flattish and can be ridden at above the e bike cut off speed on a road bike much of the way. For your journey I'd think about a Kalkhoff it it was me. They seem to be built like tanks and are known to rack up...

    Replacement Chain

Well yes. That's what chain 'stretch' is. But if you check the chain regularly and change it before the wear starts to damage the teeth then a cassette and chainring change won't be needed for a lot longer. Chains are a lot cheaper and easier to change than cassettes and rings.

    Replacement Chain

Chain measuring tools like this are quite cheap and take the guesswork out of it. .http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005C8N6U6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Can landowners restrict usage of public rights of way

I suggest you check the OS map and find out if it is a bridleway and where it goes to and from. Once a right of way always a right of way. Unless its route is moved by the council, which is a longish process needing consultation. It can't be just blocked by the landowner legally. If it still is...

    Great Customer Service From Woosh

I'm not having a go at you here, but apart from your grievance with the missed pick ups did you get the gears issue fixed? You'd been posting about that for a while and that seems to be your real gripe, with all the bad feeling about these other issues coming out of this unresolved problem. So...

    Increasing my top speed

I may be wrong but I should have thought you will be hit for the VAT and admin charge for sure. A few years ago it was rare to have to pay but since customs have become the UK Border Agency they've got their act together and they aim to charge on everything coming from outside the EU. I've paid...

But I want to work hard to get fit you see....and if I want it easier I just slow down.

    Commute realistic?

I must admit that wearing a cape was not something I would have considered back in my road bike days. I rode in the rain a lot and wore tight light waterproofs. I suspect it's that now people like to see cycling as a leisure activity, and even when commuting most seem to like to dress in a...

    Kalkhoff Sahel Premium i360 Harmony

I don't claim anything of the kind. Of course it will if you put in the work and the bike is pleasant to ride at a low assist level. Which some aren't BTW. What I say is that human nature being what it is the chances are that someone will be doing less work than they think they are, and will...

    Kalkhoff Sahel Premium i360 Harmony

Sorry if I put you off. I bought a Woosh and I enjoyed the way it went fairly effortlessly. Particularly in max assist. If you change up on the flat or a not too steep hill you find it just goes faster without having to put more effort in. It's only on steep hills that you need to put in any...

    Big Bear by Woosh

Yes I think from reading some stuff on this that 17 mph is within the tolerances and is perfectly legal. 30 kph is just above 19 mph and that works very well too. The Kalkhoff I bought gives some assistance to just over 17 mph. Oh, I was replying to trex's post about using 17 mph. But he's...

    Woosh - more dreadful service

Sounds like a cry from the heart. Did that happen to you? The buyer has a contract with the retailer not the maker. But if the retailer doesn't have a relationship with that manufacturer anymore....what then? The law says the retailer is responsible but he may not be able to get spares. I...

50 Mile round trip commute, feasible or not?

I was going to suggest that but would it do the range? If it was changed to cut out at a more civilised 30kph it would cruise at that pretty well but would be using a lot of power too. Bog standard settings using lower assist would do it for sure. Is that 350W CD motor you wrote about going to...

    Kalkhoff Sahel Premium i360 Harmony

Mine is an early 2013 Impulse I which was reprogrammed to Sport by 50 Cycles when it was bought. It's still nothing like as willing on the flat as the Woosh though. The Impulse 11 might be a lot more powerful though...

50 Mile round trip commute, feasible or not?

I suspect you may need a central motor to get the range you want. I haven't been around e bikes long myself but I'm not sure that many hub drive bikes will do that unless you turn the wick right down. In which case you'll be doing most of the work anyway and peddling a heavy bike. Others might...

    Kalkhoff Sahel Premium i360 Harmony

As someone who sold a Woosh Sport CD to buy a Kalkhoff I'd say you might find it harder work if you're commuting. The Woosh would basically do all the work except on steeper hills, where the Kalkhoff comes into its own. I wanted a bit more exercise that the Woosh was giving me but they do go...

    Woosh CD Sport Disc Brakes

There is another thread just up the page about converting a bike which goes into the issue of cut outs with hydraulic brakes. It's a bit complicated apparently.... You only really need the front brake though. With the extra weight of e bikes they're more like small motor bikes in that regard...

    Woosh CD Sport Disc Brakes

Didn't trex suggest you only fit the front one and leave the back one as standard with the brake cut out lever in place?
