    Brexit, for once some facts.

Thanks, found it now. Just as well Johnson didn't give him a peerage, it would have been more egg on Johnson's face. The Tories always maintained Bercow was pro Labour, despite his Tory background. I suppose that was because he had a conscience, something not very common in Tory circles. .

    Don't forget your helmet

Yes, it wasn't until the 1990s that they started to become noticeable. Today some sources say 38% of cyclists wear them in Britain, though apparently some 60% own a helmet. That seems to fit with this forum where many say they don't always wear them, it depending on circumstances. .

Politics in this country is as utterly corrupt as anywhere else in the world, but made far worse by the pretence that that it is honest here. .

Help! Advice on converting a tricycle

I agree, and would hope no police officer would be officious enough to act anyway. But it's as well you know the position so able to act appropriately if anything did crop up. .

Help! Advice on converting a tricycle

Agreed it's a ridiculous law and not shared by any EU country. But it is the British law for any e-bike, e-trike or e-quad, the guilt being yours as well as hers, click the link below: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/section/32/enacted .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

People are a product of their time and the times change people and their opportunities. So there isn't an equivalent to Clement Attlee who was a product of being born into privilege at the end of the Victorian era and growing into the early 20th century. The next nearest equivalent up to his...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

This was actually not the first shock for this government, it was my constituency which in the 2017 and 2019 GEs delivered that. Despite the Corbyn effect we elected a completely new female Labour MP who had failed to get elected elsewhere. She deposed Tory minister Gavin Barlow in this...

    Another accident in the news

The page I linked to is their introductory page for both, so that is where there should be the warning. Indeed one used to be there but it was removed. Just look at the footnote on that page: "Here at Halfords we’ve got a huge range of scooters and accessories, with options from top brands...

    Another accident in the news

It has to be the most cynical example of marketing by a mainstream company yet in Britain, since they've clearly known all along that they would all be used illegally. Although originally doing it, they no longer bother to include a warning on their web pages that they are illegal for use in...

Horses for courses, goat is best in the right recipe, In the West Indies it's commonly in a curry. There's a goat round here who I'm the best of friends with, knowing him since he was born. His name is Houdini since no matter how hard the owner tries, he escapes. Many's the time I've found...

    Another accident in the news

As you say they could be useful if sensibly planned, perhaps taking a cue from the Japanese. There bicycles have to take to the pavement by law in many busy urban areas, but with a strict maximum of 8 mph (13kph). So if we had e-scooters limited to 8 mph maximum they might be safe enough on...

    Another accident in the news

It looks like a kids type scooter, photo from ITV news. They are often being ridden two up on the platform: Hopefully some good will come from all these e-scooter accidents by the trial being dropped and them not being legalised. They are just plain dangerous and have no place on our roads...

We are now back to the highest Covid infection rate in Europe again. What a weird situation, more vaccinated than any other country yet the least benefit. Next the conspiracy theorists will be saying it's the vaccines that are spreading Covid. .

I take the opposite view OG, I'm in favour of all the alternative meats. Our ridiculous conservatism with food has led to all sorts of evils, for example: Countless millions of tonnes of fish thrown back dead into the sea since we won't eat them because they are not the usual ones we eat like...

They cannot have front number plates since these were abolished by law for two wheelers some sixty years ago on safety grounds. They can only theoretically carry rear number plates but don't have to for the trial. The trial only came about as a shabby political deal because our new prime...

I fully agree. I think Lord Frost is trying to patch the position he negotiated to what Boris Johnson wants by asking the EU to concede to what wasn't agreed. I doubt they'll do that, since as you say, this is purely a UK problem and much of it mythical. .

I'm sure it will grow. The publicity about the ill effects on the environment of cattle production has greatly increased interest in less damaging alternatives, with Goat, Ostrich, Crocodile, Kangaroo and even insects figuring. This quote is interesting: "Goat meat makes up 60 per cent of red...
