Agreed about Gove, but I was referring to Sajid Javid. a much steadier hand. .

That's good. He was a careful but effective chancellor for Johnson until the latter appointed Rishi Sunak to rush things for quicker results, plunging us into ever deeper debt. .

See my reply to Woosh. This wrong attribution is what happens when members don't use the "Quote" facility, instead typing out what was said as if they are saying it. .

That was actually Danidl quoting me! Danidl makes a point of not commenting on UK politicians so probably wouldn't like the attribution of the original. .

Only if they are "yes men" like the present bunch, and I dont see all of them as particularly capable. Matt Hancock, Chris Grayling and Priti Patel for example. .

    Don't forget your helmet

As I've posted so many times, my bicycle is transport, never in any way for sport. Sporting influences have been Britain's greatest curse on cycling and why so very few ride bicycles here. .

    Don't forget your helmet

You really are being perverse as we've shown. On my personal level wearing a helmet unnecessarily for over 70 years would have been a massive downside: First for the discomfort, I dislike all hats. Second for the sheer inconvenience throughout all those riding years. Third for the...

He's not stuck for talent, here's 10 Tory MPs listed among the top 20 MPs in the Commons to watch: Siobhan Baillie, Laura Trott, Dehenna Davison, Jonathan Gullis, Richard Holden, Saqib Bhatti, Miriam Cates, Danny Kruger, Alicia Kearns, Lee Anderson. I suspect the trouble is that Boris is not...

Trial E-scooters in London - additional conditions

This month London joined in with an e-scooter trial, but with additional conditions for safety. I've highlighted these in bold in the rules below: E-scooters are available to rent in four London boroughs to start with, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, Richmond upon...

Yes, Gina Coladangelo is invitingly an unfortunate name to have. Even the latter part of her surname, since dangle low is more suited for male jokes. .

You're making me laugh. One person was assaulted and a helicopter was seen overhead. This is routine thoughout the country, and long has been. Still, I suppose it's as exciting as it gets in Gloucestershire. .

You're living in the wrong place. Nothing at all like that where I am, but if you moved here you'd have to start behaving too! I suspect you might not like that. ;) .

Indeed it was fully reported in A to B magazine, and yes, those female attributes did substantially reduce the risk. The male conducting the study noted a lot more space and consideration given by motorists when he wore a long blonde wig. .

    Don't forget your helmet

That's rubbish Soundwave, if you are standing still you are at no more risk than a pedestrian from someone else running into you. So should all pedestrians wear cycle helmets in case a two wheeler runs into them? Just another example of the pro-helmet hysterical nonsense that gets spouted. .

Vidtek's life and mine haven't needed saving. Did you note his comment about riding at 6 to 8 mph? Even on pedelecs my average speed on rides was 12 mph at most, and when on unpowered bikes in my hilly area a lot slower than that. In other words I ride like the Dutch in a leisurely fashion...

    Don't forget your helmet

As I've already posted: "the 11,500 London hire bikes, heavily used by commuters coming in by rail from far away and then cycling the last mile or three to their workplace. Do you really think they'll buy a helmet, carry it from home, sit on the train for one to three hours clutching it just...

    Don't forget your helmet

I have already answered both your points and actually do find cycle helmets uncomfortable and very certainly very inconvenient. There are reasons why I leave my bikes for extended periods and don't want to walk around either wearing or carrying a helmet, particularly not in the countryside...
