Too many options in my mind, but... any good?

there is an easy cheat for UK suppliers. Put the bike through the test without the throttle. PAS is always soft start, it'll pass without throttle. Then add a full throttle later.

Too many options in my mind, but... any good?

tricky question. The xiongda XD 320RPM should be a good candidate on 20" foldable bike with hidden battery. By the way, if you design your own bike, think about foldable with hidden battery!

Too many options in my mind, but... any good?

one very addictive aspect of e-biking is the bike's acceleration, especially at traffic lights. Once bitten, it's very hard to give up.

it will depend on where you live. Very hilly: 15AH is better, flat: 10AH is better.

do you mean this £1,399 Volt Pulse? it won't get you up 20% gradient on throttle alone, you'll have to pedal quite a bit for that and you said at the beginning that you can't pedal very hard. The Volt's hub motor has a similar response like this Woosh Big Bear, it will climb 10% hill on...

then again, the £799 Santana-CD can do pretty much better (bigger battery):

    XiongDa Two-Speed Motor

the clutch looks quite complex. Could you explain how it works?

    XiongDa Two-Speed Motor

I must say your using a cap head screw and a wrench to open the motor cover is a spark of genius. Are you going to look at the clutch mechanism inside the cover?

I am sure yours will be right. I also think sacko has the best in-frame battery:

Too many options in my mind, but... any good?

The problem with Chinese bottle batteries is poor design. The fixing to the downtube is also not great, the bottle can easily wobble from side to side. Contact may be lost under severe vibrations, you can even see sparks coming out of the two flimsy spring loaded contact pins. The square bottle...

Too many options in my mind, but... any good?

there is no simple indication about the state of charge (SOC) of Lithium ion batteries, but one can assume that when the battery charger LED goes green, SOC is 100% and when the BMS cuts out, it's 0% Between the two levels, the manufacturer will garantee at least what it says on the battery...

Too many options in my mind, but... any good?

people charge more often because a 100% full battery at 42V gives better acceleration than an 80% full battery at 39V - without thinking that will stress their battery to the max, so they keep doing it.

Too many options in my mind, but... any good?

it's true that 15ah batteries have easier life than 10ah batteries. let's assume you have a 10ah battery, and your daily commute is 15 miles. The average consumption is around 12WH per mile, so 15 miles use up 15 * 12 = 180WH or 50% of your battery. You have no choice but charging up your...

    Who likes Crank-drives?

The issue is not quality. Most European middle classes would not buy Chinese unless it's less than half price. You can't build an e-bike with that 8-Fun crank drive and sell it for half the price of a comparable Bosch kit as Woosh does with an 8-Fun BPM or a TCM motor.

    Hi John from Norwich

the £625 Santana has the controller box below the battery, making it prone to be flooded if you ride your bike into a puddle. The water dripping from the downtube can also follow the wiring by gravity and gets inside the box. The Santana CD does not have this problem, but is a bit more...

    new 6000mAH cell from GEB

I only have experience with pulled prismatic cells, I soldered them with a 120W soldering iron. The tabs are already tinned, so hell was avoided. Thanks for the warning though, it's good to know.

    new 6000mAH cell from GEB

on balance, it's still much easier and cheaper to make your own pack with prismatic cells than with 18650 cylindrical cells. You only need a bit of heat shrink tube and a bit of kapton tape because prismatic cells are dead easy to solder.
