    Battery Waterproofing

all batteries are waterproofed with rubber gaskets - the problem area is around the connection with the controller. I'd grease the metal contacts for peace of mind. I take it your bike is still under warranty? Chuck a large bucket of water over your battery. Wait a little bit then pull the...

I think this is a cracking bike but what am I missing?

that was the same reaction I had when I read your first post about the 'Bergtest' (hub drive is better then crank drive for climbing) - So I re-read it yesterday. The testers took quite a bit of precautions trying to be fair to all the bikes. Of course, it's not a lab condition test. The KTM's...

I think this is a cracking bike but what am I missing?

Tim, Nobody will argue against the benefits of the NuVinci Harmony. The point I made is about efficiency. Any friction drive will have friction loss in the transmission. As long as NuVinci is coy about quantifying these losses, there are doubts about whether it should be recommended. The...

Need advice 250W 8FUN BBS01 or HUB MOTOR

I have the BBS01 (legal 250W). With a little pedalling, I can top 35kph on 36V battery on flat roads. If you want higher speed, just up the voltage.

Need advice 250W 8FUN BBS01 or HUB MOTOR

I think that the SWXK5 is very reliable - the LCD easy to program, making this kit a sure start for first build. Depending on the donnor bike of course, but in general, donnor bikes do not have their frame made to host the CD motor like on the Woosh CDs. Consequently, CD kits will always look a...

Is it a bicycle or a motorbike?

power scares me. Yes, I'd like to have a go on any new bike, 5 minutes should do it but buy it? no. My priorities for a bike are: 1) beautiful build quality, 2) discret, don't shout 'steal me' and 3), VFM. For daily use, 300W-500W are more than enough. Beyond that, you lug iron for no real...

I think this is a cracking bike but what am I missing?

Incidentally, as I was re-reading the new KTM eStyle P 2014 mountain test review, the Raleigh with Impulse motor coming last - the poor performance is down to the NuVinci-Harmony fitted to this bike according to the testers. The KTM motor is noisy. The BionX should be really be recommended...

    Kalkhoff BS

If there is no label on the bike that states 'rider needs to wear helmet and carry valid insurance document' and no1foxy or his son/daughter gets pulled by the police, regardless of all the caveat emptors on website or in print, I don't blame the rider, I'd blame the shop that sells him the...

    Switzerland allows 500watt e-bikes

sorry to sidestep the subject, has anyone managed to derestrict the KTM P eRace?

    Switzerland allows 500watt e-bikes

until sellers can pre-register the S-pedelecs or guide the customers through registration process, I'd say don't sell them, don't buy them. It's not worth the hassle, buy a KTM with a Panasonic motor instead!

    Switzerland allows 500watt e-bikes

let's not. Derestricting a bike is a personal decision, selling illegal bikes is just wrong.

    Wisper 705 Classic

Weight isn't a problem for crank drives. How about fitting a crank drive kit like the 8-Fun BBS01? You can start with something like this £230 BTWIN: Original 5 Night & Day Leisure Bike, Grey B'TWIN - All Bikes Cycling - On sale...

New KTM eStyle P 2014. Review news from KTM.

About 20% on average on the uphill section. All the bikes are given the same route, rider + bike = 100kgs, batteries charged to full. The race continues until the batteries run out. From Regenhuette, they set off for 6.7km on fairly flat ground to the bottom of the mountain (800m altitude) then...

New KTM eStyle P 2014. Review news from KTM.

there may be a logical explanation. The results for BionX, Winora, Hailbike, Maxcycles seem plausible but the Raleigh's looks decidedly strange. Battery not fully charged may be?

I think this is a cracking bike but what am I missing?

for most people, £300 extra for a NuVinci is difficult to justify. If they are not sure that they can get the knack for changing gear under max load, they should consider a BPM motor. It's only £60 more than an SWX.

    Message for D8veh

it's common amongs IT people to use numeral 3 or 8 or @ in place of 'a', 1 in place of 'i' or 'l' etc easy to remember because a 3 resembles to a hand-written a, as in d3veh. It's just an easy way to make memorable short passwords/nicknames - a bit more difficult to guess for the uninitiated.

I think this is a cracking bike but what am I missing?

It's interesting to note that none of the speed pedelec has been produced with a Nuvinci. The Nuvinci can solve the problem of loss of momentum when on max assist but adds 3kgs of extra steel to a 20-25kg bike and £300 cost. On top of that, if you cycle unassisted, you also lose 10-12% of...

    Royal Mail - good buy?

Reading the propectus, RM yields about 4.7% over the last 3 years. It has a unique position, not far off from other untilities. But there is not much time left for due diligence before applying. Still not sure if it's a good buy or not. What do you think?
